Taking on offensive raids into the LTTE backyard, SLAF fighter jets made precision air sorties at the LTTE's main intelligence command and control center located 1km West of Kilinochchi, Wednesday (Sep 10), at around 6.45a.m.
The target was acquired on reliable ground information received INTEL sources said adding that a high profile LTTE gathering was taking place at the site during the time of the attack. This is also a site frequented by the outfit's intelligence wing leader Pottu Amman, the sources said.
The target was taken with precision, Air Force Spokesperson Wing Commander Janaka Nanaykkara said, speaking to defence.lk.
Tiger communication circuits have totally gone down and silence remained since the attack, our sources said citing radio and electronic emission reports. Reiterating a major loss to the LTTE's inner core, INTEL sources added that the target site was used for coordination of major terror attacks at both civilian and military installations.
The attack follows a step-up of air offensive mission by the SLAF, who reportedly gunned down an LTTE aircraft while fleeing towards Mullaittiuvu, after its failed air attack at the Vavuniya Air Force base, yesterday.
Pro-LTTE media remained tight lipped on tiger casualties, alleging the security forces for reprisal attacks at its heartland, in Kilinochchi.
