Genre: eLearning | 68.27mb

Changes to iSCSI for ESX4.0 and ESX 4.1 are described. ESX 4.0 changes include iSCSI Multipath capabilities, a VMware-developed iSCSI initiator driver, and more configuration options. ESX 4.1 features include Broadcom iSCSI HBA support, Storage-vendor supplied session managment agents and ESXi iSCSI boot capability with iBFT compatible NICS.
iSCSI SAN configuration concepts and pitfalls are explained, to give the iSCSI customer a solid basis for deploying iSCSI. iSCSI Multipathing design is discussed, along with a configuration walkthrough. Tuning options for both the multipath configuration and iSCSI initiator are covered, so a SAN administrator can get the best performance from iSCSI on ESX. Detailed explanation of storage-vendor session agents are discussed, including how they benefit iSCSI performance with clustered storage systems. Broadcom iSCSI NIC/HBA support is described, along with a configuration example. A how to on ESXi iSCSI Boot is included.
