Dr. P.B. Jayasundera, is to sign a oil pact with Iran despite resigning from his post as Secretary of the Treasury after the Supreme Court found him guilty of wrongdoing in the privatization of Lanka Marine Services Ltd, ‘the Ravaya’ reports.
Dr. Jayasundara, accompanied by the Chairman of the CPC - Asantha De Mel and Mr. M.U. Samaranayake are to leave on September 22nd, it adds.
The government is yet to make a statement on such a pact with Iran and on contacting Minister of Petroleum and Petroleum Resources Development, A.H.M.Fowzie, the minister said that he knew nothing of such a pact, the weekend tabloid said.
However, the CPC Chairman, Asantha De Mel admitted that he would be leaving for Iran to sign an agreement but declined to state details on the pact and said that he was unaware of the others would accompany him, it added.
On asking Mr. Sumith Abeysinghe why he would not be joining the tour despite being named as Dr. Jayasundera’s successor as the Secretary of the Treasury, he said that he was appointed only on September 18th and that former officials may be going on such a trip, ‘Ravaya’ said.
However, several attempts to contact Dr. Jayasundera was unsuccessful, it further reports.
