Pulldown detection and noise reduction though, those are pretty important.

As far as video encoding, Avivo offers a free encoder I guess, a nice free tool but not the GPU accelerated wonder-software that would make it a must-have.

It's not about purifying. That's just the name they've given it. :confused:
It's hardware acceleration and deinterlacing (simply post processing done on the GPU rather than the CPU)

If you play movies in Windows Media Player, in Performance options, check Use High Quality Mode. This is tremendously improve the quality of the video, but will also increase the CPU utilization.

There isn't that much of a difference if the movie is shorter than 2 hours. I've seen DVD-5 movies as well as DVD-9 movies. For a movies like Lord of the Rings, which plays for about 3 hours, DVD-5 will not be suitable.

Doom3 is the first, then Quake is based on that engine with a bit more features, and Prey has extended it further (all three are based on the same OpenGL engine - OpenGL is nVidia's strong side)

Everyone says Oblivion is the best game ever produced. It can even bring down a 7900GTX easily to its knees (mainly with highly detailed outdoor graphics). I haven't played it - only played a few minutes to see what it was like. It's a first person shooter, but with ancient weapons.

When I introduced this game to my friends, that's what their initial attitude was. But you have to play it for a while to see how great it is. It's so much enjoyable. Besides, it also give you that "quick eye".

There are so many difficulty levels. I can't play it any harder than "adept". Easy levels could be boring, because you don't get killed that often. You should at least try to set to a middle difficulty level. "God like" is impossible for most people including myself.

I don't buy retail discs anymore. I only buy blank DVDs, and also which are of high quality. I don't give them to my friends, because they are the ones who damage them. I'm don't have such a need from a player anymore.
