Sri Lankan authorities blamed a blast in an ancient tourist town which killed a least 28 people , including a popular retired Army Genaral who had turned to politics, on the Tigers.

The Tigers are credited with perfecting the suicide bomb as a weapon in a 25 year war against the government , and have killed hundreds including top politicians in bombings, suicide or otherwise.
Here are some major bombings blamed on them;

April 1987 _____ Car bomb explodes at Colombo central bus station , killing 113 people and wounding scores........

April 1989 _____ Car bomb explodes in the eastern port of Trincomalee , killing 51 people shopping for traditional new year.......

March 1991 _____ Defence Minister Ranjan Wijeyratne is among 19 killed when a car bomb is detonated in Colombo.........

May 1991 _____ Former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi is killed in southern India by a suspected LTTE suicide bomber.......

November 1992 ____ Navy chief Clancey Fernando is killed in a suicide bombing in Colombo...............

May 1993 _____ President Ranasinghe Premadasa an d23 others are killed by a suicide bomber in Colombo.............

October 1994 ____ Presidential candidate Gamini Dissanayake is one of 52 killed in a bomb blast at a Colombo election rally.................

January 1996 _____ A truck filled with explosives rams into the Central Bank building in Colombo killing upto 100 people and wounding 1,400.............

July 1996 _____ Two bomb blasts on a rush hour commuter train kill 57 people and wound more than 250..........................

December 1999 _____ President Chandrika Kumarathunge is woundede in an attempted assassination by a suicide bomber ; atleast 34 are killed in two explotions... she lost an eye...........

June 2000 _____ Industrial Developmenet Minister C.V. Gunaratne and 21 others are killed in a suicide bomb blast in Colombo.............

April 2006 _____ Army Commander Major Genaral Sarath Fonseka is badly hurt in an abortive suicide attack on Army H.Q in Colombo............

June 2006 _____ Army Deputy Chief of staff Parami Kulatunge killed as suicide bomber rams a Motorcycle laden with explosives into his vehicle outside Colombo..............

June 2006 ____ A mine attack on a a civilian bus in the central district of Anuradhapura killed 64........................

October 2006 _____ Nearly 100 people , mostly Navy sailors, are killed in a suicide bombing on a convoy near the town of Habarana , North east of Colombo....................

January 8, 2008 _____ Nation Building Minister D.M Dassanayake is killed by a roadside bomb blamed on Tigers in the town of Ja-Ela, 12 miles (19 km) north of Colombo.........................

January 16, 2008 _____ Suspected Tiger rebels bomb civilian bus in central district of Monaragala killing 24 people and wounding dozens on the day a 2002 ceasefire formally expires....................

February 2, 2008 _____Bomb explodes on civilian bus in central town of Dambulla , killing atleast 20 people and wounding 50. Military blames attack on Tamil Tigers.......

October 6, 2008 _____ Suicide bomber kills popular retired Army Genaarl Janaka Perera, main opposition party's provincial leader , on nothern town of Anuradhapura , along with his wife and 28 others..... Army blames Tigers................

This list should include JOC bomb in 1990. It was very close to our school. It was so big it virtually shaked the entire area. It even created a deep crater. Anybody who was in near by schools that day will never forget the sound and the big column of smoke of that bomb.

Thanks, but I can't believe there isn't more!

You missed the JOC bombing in Flower Road in 1991. I remember that vividly cuase it was very close to my school. I think the death toll was around 15 or more.
