According to a Wall Street research analyst, media processor company PortalPlayer has scored a design win in Apple’s iPhone. This development, if true, further cements NVIDIA into future iPods as the graphics maker announced its acquisition of PortalPlayer earlier this month.
Analysts have also pegged NVIDIA to power Apple’s next-generation iPod video player, giving the Santa Clara company considerable influence in the hot market.
It is unknown whether or not the NVIDIA acquisition played any part in Apple’s decision, though this does mark a repeated attempt by PortalPlayer to find its way into the iPod. PortalPlayer was originally aiming to get its processor into the iPod Nano, but lost out to Samsung.
