Even in XP, I didn't mess with these stuff. I once installed an old version (I think 5.0) in a Virtual PC and it had some graphical glitches; imperfections here and there. I don't like those.

I think once you install this, it's better to defrag the system partition. It's mostly the defragmentation that will affect the performance, because before installing it, the system files may have been placed in an ordered manner. Since the setup will patch system files, they might get heavlly defragmented.
