In this reprint several minor inaccuracies, most of them noted by readers, have
been corrected. For example, the rune text now corresponds exactly with the runes
on Thror's Map. More important is the matter of Chapter Five. There the true
story of the ending of the Riddle Game, as it was eventually revealed (under
pressure) by Bilbo to Gandalf, is now given according to the Red Book, in place
of the version Bilbo first gave to his friends, and actually set down in his diary.
This departure from truth on the part of a most honest hobbit was a portent of
great significance. It does not, however, concern the present story, and those who
in this edition make their first acquaintance with hobbit-lore need not troupe about
it. Its explanation lies in the history of the Ring, as it was set out in the chronicles
of the Red Book of Westmarch, and is now told in The Lord of the Rings.
A final note may be added, on a point raised by several students of the lore of
the period. On Thror's Map is written Here of old was Thrain King under the
Mountain; yet Thrain was the son of Thror, the last King under the Mountain
before the coming of the dragon. The Map, however, is not in error. Names are
often repeated in dynasties, and the genealogies show that a distant ancestor of
Thror was referred to, Thrain I, a fugitive from Moria, who first discovered the
Lonely Mountain, Erebor, and ruled there for a while, before his people moved on
to the remoter mountains of the North.

Perry Mason novel by Erle Stanley Gardner. Hope you enjoy them!
The Case of the Crying Swallow (short story) (1947) — Major Claude Winnett, war hero, lives with his wife and mother on a vast sea-side estate. Some jewelry is missing, and his wife has disappeared.
The Case of the Blonde Bonanza (1962) - Mason thinks it's crazy that someone is paying a beautiful girl $100 a week to put on weight, but she might be a missing heir -- or a murderer. "A diabolically clever variation on the confidence game of the "lost heir" is the foundation of this delightful caper, in which Perry Mason once again sees through the machinations of people generally quite as able as himself. ... Again, the court scene is thrilling and brilliant."
The Case of the Counterfeit Eye (1935) - "Peter Brunold has a bloodshot glass eye to use the "morning after". It is distinctive, closely identified with him, and thus quite a handicap when a corpse is found clutching a bloodshot glass eye. Later, another corpse is found, with another bloodshot glass eye in hand. Perry Mason is in almost as much jeopardy as his client: the lawyer's fingerprints have been found on one of the alleged murder weapons."
The Case of the Caretaker's Cat (1935) - After his employer dies in a fire, a caretaker hires Mason to allow him to keep his cat against the wishes of the men who inherit. When the caretaker is killed, Mason defends the woman accused of his murder.
The Case of the Dangerous Dowager (1937) - Mason is hired to retrieve a spoiled granddaughter's gambling IOUs by a wealthy cigar-smoking dowager. A murder aboard a gambling ship is beyond the three-mile limit.
The Case of the Curious Bride (1935) — A woman claiming not to be a bride consults Mason about her 'friend' whose husband, long thought to have died in a plane crash, turns up alive.
The Case of the Baited Hook (1940) - Mason is given a third of a $10,000 bill to represent a masked woman in the future. It takes him almost until the murder trial to find out which cheating woman is his client.
The Case of the Daring Divorcee (1964) : A purse containing thousands of dollars and a twice-fired gun is left in Mason's office, but his potential client has disappeared.
The Case of the Howling Dog (1934) - "When a potential client wants to see Perry Mason about a howling dog and a will, the attorney is not interested. He does not enjoy drawing wills, and wonders if the man shouldn't see a veterinarian. However, when the man asks whether a will is legal if the person who made it had been executed for murder, immediately Mason becomes interested. He finds, in addition to the will and the dog, a man who had run away with the wife of another, and a sexy housekeeper."
The Case of the Horrified Heirs (1964) - Mason defends a woman twice; once on drug smuggling charges, and once on murder charges.
The Case of the Lazy Lover (1947) - A man tells everyone that his wife has run away with his best friend, who seems to have a strange lack of enthusiasm about the affair. The case leads to murder and a trial that hinges on multiple sets of footprints.
The Case of the Foot-Loose Doll (1958) - Mason defends a woman against charges of two murders - she has already stolen $4,000, stabbed a man with an ice pick and fled a fatal accident but he is convinced she is innocent of murder.
The Case of the Fenced-In Woman (published posthumously) (1972) - Mason becomes involved in the bizarre case of a house split right through the living room with a barbed-wire fence -- and a body in the pool.
The Case of the Lucky Legs (1934) - A mistake at a murder scene dogs Perry while he tries to represent a woman taken in by a con man.
The Case of the Troubled Trustee (1965) - Why would a talented investment advisor embezzle a quarter of a million dollars from his client 'for her own good?' Mason first advises him, then defends him as the case becomes murder.
The Case of the Sleepwalker's Niece (1936) - When two men change bedrooms at a house-party, everyone thinks that the sleepwalker with the carving knife killed the wrong man.
The Case of the Stuttering Bishop (1936) — Mason gets a telephone call from a man who identifies himself as Anglican Bishop William Mallory, recently returned from many years in Australia, and tells Mason that he will testify on the behalf of Mason's client, if Mason can find him. But Mason observes that a bishop who's delivered many sermons is unlikely to stutter.
The Case of the Velvet Claws (1933) - A spoiled woman is keen to keep news of her affairs from her powerful husband, even if it costs Perry his freedom when she swears he was on the murder scene.
The Case of the Sulky Girl (1933) - A bratty heiress wants to keep the news of her marriage a secret from the guardian who controls her purse strings, but when he's murdered, her groom is accused.
The Case of the Singing Skirt (1959) - Mason's client is framed for theft and fired because she wouldn't help cheat a casino patron. Then she's accused of murder, and the gun juggling begins. "The court scene is excellent; the characters, though thin as usual, are amply credible; and the pace never flags."

Quote:You can learn to play the piano by ear without the need for written sheet music using the revolutionary technique of "Rhythmic PATTERNS". For those who have had standard piano lessons, this is brand new information. But it really is no secret... guitar players have been doing this for years. They learn a few simple strumming PATTERNS plus a few chords and they're enjoying music right away!
You'll quickly hear that although this pattern is being played in different places on the keyboard, it sounds the same. And you're totally right - each Rhythmic Pattern is played in exactly the same way in any location on the keyboard!
Immediately, we'll move into some piano music and play an entire song with just this one simple pattern. Sound like your old piano lessons? No way!
Next, we'll learn a second pattern and play the same song again - this time however, we'll alternate patterns one and two for a unique sound. Suddenly, you have some variety as you play the piano! The key here is that you'll soon be able to mix and match all these patterns to come up with your own unique musical sound.
Wow - and you thought piano lessons were boring? Get ready - you're about to enter a whole new musical world. Audio and Video clips included.
Play Keyboards Now - Chords and Mellody
Play Keyboards Now! concentrates on chords and melodies to get to the heart of modern keyboard playing. Covers major and minor chords, sevenths, added 9ths, arpeggio patterns, walking bass lines, boogie tones, and more. Also learn five complete song accompaniments and play along with the specially recorded tracks. The Melody segment focuses on reading music and playing melodies. Teaches note reading, rhythm, and how to move up and down the keyboard with ease. Never before has playing keyboard been so easy.

Edgar Allan Poe's "Murders in the Rue Morgue" launched the detective story in 1841. The genre began as a highbrow form of entertainment, a puzzle to be solved by a rational sifting of clues. In Britain, the stories became decidedly upper crust: the crime often commited in a world of manor homes and formal gardens, the blood on the Persian rug usually blue. But from the beginning, American writers worked important changes on Poe's basic formula, especially in language and locale. And with World War I, the Roaring '20s, the rise of organized crime and corrupt police with Prohibition, and the Great Depression, American detective fiction branched out in all directions, lead by writers such as Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler, who brought crime out of the drawing room and into the "mean streets" where it actually occured. In The Oxford Book of American Detective Stories, Tony Hillerman and Rosemary Herbert bring together thirty-four tales that illuminate both the evolution of crime fiction in the United States and America's unique contribution to this highly popular genre. Tracing its progress from elegant "locked room" mysteries, to the hard-boiled realism of the '30s and '40s, to the great range of styles seen today, this superb collection includes virtually all the great crime writers, including Erle Stanley Gardner, Raymond Chandler, Ross Macdonald, Rex Stout, Ellery Queen, Ed McBain, Sara Paretsky, Sue Grafton, and Hillerman himself. There are also many delightful surprises: Bret Harte, for instance, offers a Sherlockian pastiche with a hero named Hemlock Jones, and William Faulkner blends local color, authentic dialogue, and dark, twisted pride in "An Error in Chemistry." We meet a wide range of sleuths, from armchair detective Nero Wolfe, to Richard Sale's journalist Daffy Dill, to Robert Leslie Bellem's wise-cracking Dan Turner, to Linda Barnes's six-foot, red-haired, taxi-driving female P.I., Carlotta Carlyle. And we sample a wide variety of styles, from tales with a strongly regional flavor, to hard-edged pulp fiction, to stories with a feminist perspective. Perhaps most important, the book offers a brilliant summation of America's signal contribution to crime fiction, highlighting the myriad ways in which we have reshaped this genre. The editors show how Raymond Chandler used crime, not as a puzzle to be solved, but as a spotlight with which he could illuminate the human condition; how Ed McBain, in "A Small Homicide," reveals a keen knowledge of police work as well as of the human sorrow which so often motivates crime; and how Ross Macdonald's Lew Archer solved crime not through blood stains and footprints, but through psychological insight into the damaged lives of the victim's family. And throughout, the editors provide highly knowledgeable introductions to each piece, written from the perspective of fellow writers and reflecting a life-long interest--not to say love--of this quintessentially American genre. American crime fiction is as varied and as democratic as America itself. Hillerman and Herbert bring us a goldmine of glorious stories that can be read for sheer pleasure, but that also illuminate how the crime story evolved from the drawing room to the back alley, and how it came to embrace every corner of our nation and every facet of our lives.

Shooting Digital: Pro Tips for Taking Great Pictures
English| 287 pages | 26.2MB
SA digital camera is functionally identical to a traditional film camera in all respects except image storage, right? Not at all, and Mikkel Aaland shows exactly why in his excellent Shooting Digital. He shows why digital cameras–the point-and-shoot variety as well as fancier models meant for professional photographers–are overall neither better nor worse than cameras of older design, and goes on to show you how to take advantage of their special traits. He shows how to compensate for their shortcomings, too, notably shutter lag (for which he documents a useful testing procedure) and color fringing. Though there’s some coverage of creating animated GIFs, this book generally sticks to shooting time and leaves editing to other volumes.

In the year 2022 CE, a seemingly immortal extraterrestrial race called "Kurians" has wrested control of the Earth from its inhabitants. The Kurians derive their endless lifespans from draining the "vital aura" of other life forms. To facilitate this addiction to life energy, the Kurians employ killing machines known as "Reapers".
Following the Kurian takeover, many humans made the decision to serve the new overlords. These traitors, known as Quislings, are set up as members of the police and supervisory government for the Kurian Order. Nearly every other human who is not a Quisling is known as a Territorial, and is either a slave scratching out a living in various trades, or fighting with rebel organizations such as the Southern Command.
After a time, the Kurian Order reduced Earth to a technological and social Dark Age, with only the few remaining pre-2022 machines and transportation networks surviving, with most of these under Kurian control. As an incentive to good and loyal service to the Kurian Lords, Quislings are awarded "ten year badges", which protect the wearers from the Reapers. Even more sought after is the "Brass Ring". A Brass Ring ensures that one never has to fear being randomly taken by the Reapers at night, although it can be revoked and cannot be passed to one's children.
Pockets of resistance do exist, however. The main rebel group fighting the Order at the beginning of the series is known as Southern Command. A formal military (though classified by the Order as terrorists) is charged with the defense of the Ozark Free Territory; Southern Command would be doomed were it not for the Hunters.

These 303 tactical positions emerge from actual play and will prove both educational and challenging for both the beginning and intermediate chess player. Even expert players can sharpen their skills by solving these clever puzzles.
This is a great practice book for beginners and intermediate players to learn the essential elements of forks, pins, discoveries, skewers, mating attacks and even swindles!
The final section on how to save a lost position is worth its weight in gold. Presented here are some miraculous escapes in forcing a draw out of a lost position. Chess players especially appreciate a good swindle!
The tactical concepts of pins, forks, skewers and mates are well presented in a preface to every chapter elucidating the fundamental concepts of tactical chess and then challenging the reader to find the winning move using those concepts.
I look forward to additional tactical works from these great chess teachers. I would especially like a follow up work from them on tactics for intermediate to expert players.
This volume whets the appetite.
Feast on these pins, forks and swindles for now!

Many types of websites can be built and maintained more easily using a content management system (CMS).A CMS provides a web-based interface for creating and organizing content. The content is stored in a database, then consistently presented according to a set of templates and preferences, which eliminates the need to handcraft each page in HTML. Joomla! is a popular, easy-to-use, open-source CMS built in PHP. It has near-limitless functionality, thanks to its community of extension developers. In Joomla! 1.5 Essential Training, Joseph LeBlanc uses Joomla! to build a small-business website from scratch with no programming at all, from installation to launch. He demonstrates how to create and organize content; add menus, sidebars, and other features; change the look with templates; install plug-ins and extensions; and much more. Exercise files accompany the course.

VTC - Data Modeling Tutorials
Data modeling is the act of exploring data-oriented structures. When building a database, data modeling implies the creation of a model for data within that database. Data models can be used for a variety of purposes, from high-level conceptual models to physical data models. VTC author, Gavin Powell, covers topics such as normalization and denormalization for relational data modeling, fact dimensional structures for data warehouse data modeling, and basic object data modeling for object databases. Powell also examines useful web sites and vendor software, such as Oracle database, for finding data modeling information. To being learning today, simply click on one of the Data Modeling lessons.

10 Ways to Make Your CDs and DVDs Last Longer
When your favorite CD -- the one that you play on repeat at the gym -- skips a note, you know you're in trouble! Don't fret, there are many simple ways to increase the shelf life of your prized discs.
1. Watch Your CD Wallets
Those slim, zippered CD wallets certainly make it easy to transport your CDs from one place to another, but they should never be used for long-term or archival storage. Many wallets provide adequate cushioning behind the discs, but your CDs are still prone to scratches (typically as a result of frequent trips in and out of the sleeve) and other hazards.
2. Handle DVDs With Care
Although the error-correction encoding for DVDs is almost ten times more thorough than that used for audio CDs, DVDs are still more susceptible to damage by scratches and mishandling than CDs. That's because DVDs cram a lot more information into a comparable amount of space (up to 4.7 GB per side compared with 700 MB in a CD -- that's more than six times as much). With that in mind, you may want to handle your DVDs a bit more carefully than your CDs.
Never touch the disc's flat surface; rather, always hold it with one finger in the center hole and the other fingers around the outside edge.
When removing a DVD from its case, always be sure to press the button on the center hub and push downward on it; never remove a DVD from its package simply by prying up the outer edge of the disc.
3. Keep CDs off the Dashboard
If you keep a CD wallet in your car, never, ever, leave it on the dashboard or front seat in hot climates or during the summer months. The plastic sleeves of some poorly made wallets have been known to melt and adhere to CDs after several hours of exposure to the hot sun.
4. Don't Buy Blanks in Bulk
Unless, of course, you intend to burn a lot of discs in a relatively short period of time. That's because the organic dye used to record the data on the disc will eventually spoil if it is not used. Although CD-R and DVD-R manufacturers claim blank, unused discs have five-year shelf life, that claim has not been verified by independent testing, and you won't find any expiration dates on the packaging. All things considered, it's best to buy new discs on an as-needed basis, rather than purchasing a large quantity to use over several years.
5. Keep Your Discs Clean
CDs and DVDs need to be kept free of dust and fingerprints, which can cause tracking errors by blocking the path of the laser that reads the discs. Cleaning is just a matter of wiping your discs with a damp nonabrasive cloth -- the cloths designed to clean eyeglasses are ideal. You should never use harsh chemicals or cleaning agents. You can, however, use a water-based lens cleaner and mild detergent, if needed.
Gently wipe the disc by moving the cloth in a curved line from the inside hole to the outer edge. Don't wipe in a circular motion; you can make the disc unreadable if you accidentally scratch it while wiping around the disc's circumference.
6. Repair a Scratched Disc
Do you have a scratched CD or DVD that's headed for the trash? Before you toss it, try fixing it with some Brasso metal polish (which sells for under $6 for 8 ounces in the U.S.). The idea is to use the polish to smooth out the scratch so the player's laser can read the data; you don't necessarily have to make the scratches disappear. Use a soft cloth to rub a couple of drops of Brasso into the disc until the scratch is almost gone. Scratches are best handled by rubbing along the direction of the scratch, while scuff marks should be polished in a radial motion. Let the Brasso dry on the surface; then use a fresh soft cloth to rub it off, using a radial motion.
You can use other products in a similar fashion to smooth out the scratches on your discs. Nongel white toothpaste and car wax are two popular choices. There are also many commercial disc-repair kits and devices available, some of which -- such as the Alera 240121 DVD/CD Disc Repair-Plus Kit (about $27) and the Skipdoctor CD Repair Kit (about $23) -- can be very effective. They are also sold by audio-equipment retailers.
Of course, if a scratch is deep enough to damage a disc's data layer, it can't be repaired no matter what you do. (The name is true for any scratches on the disc's label side, which back onto the disc's reflective layer.) Still, any attempts to salvage a scratched disc are always worth the effort -- not to mention the money and time you'll save when you're successful.
7. Don't Back Up Rewriteable CDs
A rewriteable CD (CD-RW) should never be used for archival purposes. Although they're designed specifically for data backups, CD-RWs are fundamentally different from CD-Rs: They have an aluminum reflective layer, and record data on a phase-changing metal-alloy film rather than an organic dye. CD-RWs are less stable, more sensitive to heat damage, and have a much shorter lifespan than CD-Rs (typically 25 years or less, depending on how many times they're recorded on).
8. Stick to Longhand Labeling
The need to label your home-recorded CD-Rs and DVD-Rs is obvious; how else will you identify them? Although there's no shortage of labeling kits on the market, you may want to think twice before using any of them. The problem is that the adhesive used for virtually all of the labels included in these kits can harm the data stored on your discs or offset the discs' balance when they're played, which can damage computer drives and CD and DVD players. Until true archival-quality labels for optical discs arrive, it's best to simply write the information in the printed area of the disc with a nonsolvent-based felt-tip pen -- such as TDK's CD Mark or Maxwell's DiscWriter pens, both of which come in packages of four for about $6. Never use a ballpoint pen, pencil, or other types of permanent markers, as they're likely to destroy the disc or the data.
9. Save as Data Instead of Music
There are a number of digital audio formats in use these days, although MP3s, WAV, and MID (MIDI) are probably the best known of the bunch. Audio CDs, meanwhile, have their own formatting (although they use WAV files) that allow them to work with all CD players -- including models that predate the arrival of CD burners.
When storing music files onto a CD-R or recordable DVD for archival purposes, experts recommend recording them as WAV files rather than as CD Audio files. You won't be able to play the discs on most home or portable CD players, but you'll be getting some added insurance on the integrity of your music in return. When a scratch or other flaw causes a loss of data on an audio CD, it's typically heard as a loud click or pop as the CD is played. All computer data files (including WAV files), however, have an extra level of error correction that provides additional protection against data loss with fewer audible artifacts. Besides, you can always burn an audio CD using your archived WAV files at some later time.
10. Use Slower Speeds for Archival Audio Recording
If you decide to use the CD Audio format when making archival copies of your digital music, it's a good idea to record the discs at a slow speed, preferably 4x. Decreasing the recording speed ensures a more exact burn with better laser response. Higher speeds are fine for recording data, where significant error correction is inserted during the burn and implemented during the readback. But when the lack of error correction in the CD Audio format is combined with irregularities in the quality of the blank media and inaccuracies of the laser during recording, the end result can be inferior-sounding discs. A slow speed makes sure you're getting the best-possible recording.

You're no idiot of course. You know something about classical music, whether it's the "da-da-da-dum" opening of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony or that a famous shaggy dog was named after that same composer. But when it comes to knowing your Vivaldi from your Berlioz, you find it less stressful to tune your radio dial to some old time rock and roll. Don't give up yet! The Complete Idiot's Guide to Classical Music shows you how easy it is to understand and appreciate classical music--from recognizing musical pieces to distinguishing composers.

Broadband Planar Antennas: Design and Applications
Analog Devices | 258 Pages | 2006 | ISBN:0470871741 | PDF | 5,20 MB
The increasing demand for wireless communications has revolutionised the lifestyle of today’s society and one of the key components of wireless technology is antenna design. Broadband planar antennas are the newest generation of antennas boasting the attractive features required, such as broad operating bandwidth, low profile, light weight, low cost and ease of integration into arrays or Radio Frequency (RF) circuits, to make them ideal components of modern communications systems. Research into small and broadband antennas has been spurred by the rapid development of portable wireless communication devices such as cell phones, laptops and personal digital assistants.
This all-encompassing volume, Broadband Planar Antennas: Design and Applications, systematically describes the techniques for all planar antennas from microstrip patch antennas, suspended plate antennas and planar inverted-L/F antennas to planar dipole antennas. Also discussed are some of the most recent outcomes such as broadband antenna issues in promising ultra-wideband applications.

By Paul (Idalou, TX United States) -
I wish I had this book 5 years ago. I would be so much further along.
This book is similar to a boy scout manual. Turn to any page and you *will* find something vital to making music. The author never explicitly supports any one way of playing guitar or writing a song. On the contrary, the book teaches "if it works, and you like it, then who can say something is done wrong." The one criticism I can recall is when the author lambasts singers, esp. Whitney Houston, for endless and mindless scales decorating every other word in their songs.
If you have the patience to really STUDY and DIGEST this book, it will teach you the following:
*Basic chord shapes (many of which are left out of other books)
*Non-Basic chords (but later in the book and only the ones that you will actually use. WooHoo! No more Fm13b5b7 chords cluttering the world!)
*All of the chords in each key (You had better make a copy of this page and use that or you will wear out this page and lose it. I promise. Substitutions for the blues and hard rock are also included and explained.)
*Exhaustive "study" of the basic chord progressions (e.g., I VI IV V, I V IV III, etc. and many examples of songs from the 50s to Fatboy Slim so you know what they sound like. The "study" part is mostly left to you. This makes practice much more interesting. Play "Message in a Bottle" or "Smells Like Teen Spirit" instead of "Greensleeves". You are given the progressions for thousands of songs. Find the right key and the words and commence to rockin".)
*Lots of tips on creating non-standard progressions (if it sounds good and you like it...)
*How others go about using inversions and keychanges in the real world (worth the price just for this info)
*Tips on lyrics (Don"t sing "I Love You", rather sing "I Love You But You"re Broke". In other words, it sends you on tangents and helps you develop your basic thoughts into more interesting lyrics. "I Love You But You Ran Off With A Monkey On My Birthday")
Like the other guy said, if you have ever felt like you could write a song but you are clueless as to how to go about it, this book will pull a song out of you.
Since I bought this book a year ago, I have it open every time I practice. My mouth waters every time I touch it because I know I will find something new and very useful. It is absolutely the most information I have found in one place.
I really can"t say enough about this book, but I"m tired of typing and I think I"ve gotten my point across...
Oh yeah, buy this book.

Combine the 8 Minute Abs, 8 Minute Arms, 8 Minute Buns, AND 8 Minute Legs workouts and you got one GREAT package!
This DVD is excellent for people who want a quick workout. The instructors get right down to business from the get-go, without a lot of talking or wasting time. You spend roughly 45 seconds on each exercise, which is perfect - you will feel the burn if you’re working constantly and not taking breaks… This workout is one that is proven to show results!
8 Minute Abs: This program concentrates on the abdominal muscles. No extra equipment is required to complete the workout. Each individual exercise takes approximately 45 seconds and targets the abs specifically. An onscreen timer counts down the seconds to let the viewer know how long to perform each movement and how much time is left.
8 Minute Arms: This program concentrates on toning and shaping the arms, and like the other videos in the series, promises to give the user good muscle development in the shortest amount of time. No equipment is required other than the space to move about freely. An onscreen timer helps the viewer spend the right amount of time on each movement and counts down until the end of the video.
8 Minute Buns: This program concentrates on firming the buttocks. Included are squats, lunges, and other butt-press movements and exercises. No equipment is needed; everything is done with the individual’s body. There is a timer included on the video to count down the time for each exercise and also to count down the minutes of the whole tape.
8 Minute Legs: This program provides guidance for working the thigh muscles to achieve a toned look. As with all of the 8 Minute workouts, this one doesn’t require any extra equipment, just the individual’s body and eight minutes. Simple movements are accompanied by a timer that counts down the minutes and seconds left to complete the maneouvers.

Styling with CSS A Designers Guide Ebook
12-29-2008, 07:46 PM
Despite its small size, this book has a wealth of information on one of Bruce Lee's most famous techniques. If you want to learn Bruce Lee's One-Inch Punch, I would wholeheartedly recommend this book.
Classical Wing Chun has a technique called the One-Inch Punch, but don't confuse it with the One-Inch Punch taught in this book. Throughout the book, the technique is refered to as the "Floating Punch" to avoid confusion. While the One-Inch Punch of classical Wing Chun is designed as a type of shocking blow, the Floating Punch is much more of a destructive blast.
In addition to showing the actual technique in depth, the book also covers the physical and mental development that helps maximize the potential of the punch. At around 30 pages, this book may seem rather thin, but every page is absolutely packed with valuable information. Anyone who reads the instructions in this book and spends some time practicing will develop a strong floating punch rather quickly.

The duct-tape-and-plastic-sheeting mania of early 2003 shows that most Americans need clear-headed information about how to stay safe in the post-9/11 world. This book is a practical resource in that effort. It applies the actuarial concepts and risk management strategies discussed in Silver Lake's Protect Yourself and applies them to the specific needs of everyday living, and is filled with checklists, questionnaires, and personal audits. This book helps readers make good decisions about managing risk...and to prepare for the risks that can't be managed.

Review by Paul Lappen
Are you being kept in the dark about the world around you?
Do you feel that there are things the government and media won't tell you, but you can't quite put it into words?
This is the book for you.
Written in bite-size chunks, this book presents a number of things not told to the public.
What the world knows as the Ten Commandments are not what Moses brought down from Mt. Sinai on those stone tablets
(read Exodus Chapters 20 and 34).
The police are not legally obligated to protect citizens.
The government can take your house and land, and then sell them to private corporations.
According to the auto industry, 90% of SUV drivers are insecure and selfish.
Almost 90% of American cows contain a cancer-causing microbe called bovine leukaemia virus.
In America, prescription drugs, even when used properly, kill over 100,000 people per year, making it the
fourth leading cause of death. The CIA commits over 100,000 serious crimes yearly.
The US Government vastly overstates the number of terrorism convictions it obtains each year.
In 1961, two atomic bombs were accidentally dropped on North Carolina when their plane disintegrated in midair.
One of the bombs was found; the other is still missing.
The government's own reports show that both bombs had 4 separate arming devices; 3 of them had been activated.
Kent State was not the only, let alone the first, massacre of college students during the Vietnam War.
The tattoo at Auschwitz was originally an IBM code number.
Many of the first feminists, like Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, were pro-life.
Juries are allowed to judge the law, not just the facts.
According to the Supreme Court, it's legal for a person to ingest any drug, especially if they are an addict.
Last but not least, what were you doing on January 25, 1995? On that day, the world came within minutes of World War III.
This small, but mighty, book easily reaches the level of Wow.
There are references in the back of the book so the reader can do their own investigating.
It's easy to read and very eye opening.
On several different levels, this book is very highly recommended.

(one of my favourites)
The Godfather is a crime novel written by American author Mario Puzo. It details the story of a fictitious Sicilian Mafia family based in New York City (and Long Beach, NY) and headed by Don Vito Corleone, who became synonymous with the Italian Mafia. The novel covers the years 1945 to 1955, and also provides the backstory of Vito Corleone from early childhood to adulthood.

Last year, more than seven million Americans participated in yoga or tai chi classes.Yet despite its popularity the real nature of yoga remains shrouded in mystery. A diverse range of practitioners range from white-bearded Indian mystics to celebrities like Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow. Positioning Yoga provides an overview of the development of yoga, from its introduction to Western audiences by the Indian Swami Vivekananda at the 1893 Parliament of the World's Religions in Chicago to forms of modern practice. What makes yoga practitioners affiliated with Swami Sivananda's Divine Life Society of Rishikesh, India unique--whether they hail from Indian, North America, or Europe? What values around the world have supported the surging popularity of yoga over the past century? This absorbing book considers how lifestyle values have made yoga a global industry and shows how this popular "lifestyle" is produced and disseminated across boundaries.

Tired of clawing your way through computer books that start at the beginning of recorded history just to find one tiny nugget of information you need? Tired of wrenching your back to pull that massive Windows tome off your bookshelf? Tired of wishing you could find a simple answer to what should be a simple problem? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then 100 Things You Need to Know about MicrosoftA (R) Windows VistaaA A is just the book you've been looking for. Chock full of timesaving tips, heady solutions, and expert know-how, this book doesn't break the bank nor does it require a Bowflex body to hoist it around. Inside you'll find step-by-step help for the 100 things every Windows user needs to know when making the big switch between Windows XP and Vista. Even if you're brand new to Windows (meaning Vista is your first-ever operating system), you'll find the advice here indispensable. In this book, we assume, for instance, that you really don't give a hoot about what TCP/IP is. We're betting you just want to get your Internet connection up and running, and leave the techy muck to the propeller heads.
Want all the cool new cutting-edge features and interface Windows Vista offers? Well, before you run out and buy the software, you need to ensure your system will support it! We walk you through, step-by-step, how to manually check if your PC and other hardware and software are supported for use with Windows Vista. We show you how to perform common upgrade tasks, if needed, before you install Vista. In addition, we provide tips and procedures on backing up your data. * Having to choose between five different versions (yes, Vista comes in FIVE flavors!) can be confusing! Don't sweat it, though–we've got you covered. We show you how to decide which flavor of Vista is best suited to you! Then we walk you through installing and setting up Vista for the very first time. * Next we dig into the new Vista interface, which is quite a change from the old XP! Then we give you a tour of the many new and enhanced features. While you might fancy yourself a wicked-smart Windows user, don't skip this section! We're positive you'll find things you didn't know that will help you make Vista do thy bidding. * Don't like the slick new Vista interface? (Macintosh, anyone?)
I show you how to harness the power of Vista while keeping the look and feel of your XP. Who says change has to be painful? * After you have the basics nailed, we then show you some of the cool things you can do with Vista, from customizing its performance, to disabling annoying security controls, to connecting to a wireless network.

"Sex Secrets" is the comprehensive manual that will teach you how to make your lover so "hot to trot" she'll practically drag you into bed. You'll discover how women really view sex, what they desire, and how you can employ this knowledge to bring pleasure to your mate — and yourself. Soon you and your lover will be enjoying sex in ways you've both likely only dreamed about.
"Sex Secrets" also reveals the between-these-covers secrets like how pheromones make (or break) a relationship, the pitfalls of a common medication that reverses a woman's attraction toward her lover; and the food and minerals essential for a man's healthy sex life. This manual discloses which sports, medications, and foods can destroy your lovemaking abilities almost overnight. You'll also learn ways to make love like the Energizer bunny, why size does not matter, the four ways you can bring a woman to orgasm (actually five ways, but this manual combines two of them).
There are even some "sexercises" to treat erectile dysfunction and an uncompromising look at "medical fixes" for sexual problems including anorgasmia, priapism, ED, etc., etc.
"Sex Secrets" will make you a super lover and give you a whole new level of enjoyment. Read this manual today for a super sex life that will help you build (or rebuild) a lasting and fulfilling relationship.

About this book
This is a book of practical robotics written for beginners but also catering for those who have progressed a little further beyond that stage. It describes the mechanics of robot construction, how to build the electronic circuits, and finally goes into the details of programming robotic systems. The first half of the book is a cookbook of information, ideas, tips, and suggestions for the first-time roboticists and others. Much of the content will be of interest and practical use to students in Further and Higher Education who are working on a micro-controllerbased project (though not necessarily a robotic one). The second half of the book describes the designing, building and programming of five robots of varying degrees of complexity. The specifications are flexible and essential features are emphasised so that the designs are readily adaptable to whatever materials and parts the reader can obtain. Each description points the way to more advanced development of the project, resulting in a wide range of
fascinating and often unique robots. The programs are listed in the PICs MPASM assembler, which allows them to be modified, fine-tuned and extended. The listings are fully annotated and are accompanied by detailed flowcharts. These are intended to provide ample guidance for those who wish to program in one of the dialects of BASIC, or in the C language.

Welcome to the first and most far-reaching training on the latest version of Adobe's flagship image editor, Photoshop CS3. Hosted by award-winning author and Photoshop Hall of Famer Deke McClelland, Photoshop CS3 One-on-One is your opportunity to delve headlong into the new Photoshop with a seasoned, knowledgeable guide by your side. Complete with task-based projects and work-along sample files, this is the ultimate insider's guide to Photoshop CS3.
Organized into 27 logical chapters, these 360 movies will load you up with the essential information and skills you need to become comfortable and competent with the standard edition of Photoshop CS3. Everything is here, from the newest enhancements to the reliable classics, from the absolute essentials to the most advanced techniques. As Deke says, "Photoshop CS3 One-on-One is about in-depth instruction, real-world projects, and an informal while at the same time detailed and painstakingly accurate approach. It s your chance to go from 0 to 60 in a single series. I hope you ll agree, this is one-on-one training at its best."
Photoshop CS3 One-on-One covers the following topics, with an eye toward addressing techniques in the order that they are best employed:
Understanding what Photoshop is and what it can do
Zooming, scrolling, and getting around an image
Making the most of the new-and-improved CS3 interface
Using Adobe Bridge to organize and manage images
Saving workspaces for maximum comfort and efficiency
Correcting colors using the Variations and Hue/Saturation commands
Taking on the professional-grade luminance editors, Levels and Curves
Resampling an image and selecting an interpolation setting
Cropping and straightening a photograph
Using the selection tools, including the new Refine Edges command
Retouching and image and healing away blemishes
Understanding masking, layering, and layer comps
Sharpening, blurring, and averaging the details in a photograph
Working with transparency and blend modes
Working with transparency and blend modes
Cloning and healing in perspective using Vanishing Point 2
Creating and editing text
Using layer effects and styles to correct photographs and achieve special effects
Making the most of adjustment layers, smart objects, and smart filters
Working with the wealth of new features in Camera Raw 4, including its ability to open photos saved in JPEG or TIFF
Stitching multiple photographs seamlessly using the new and improved Auto-Align, Auto-Blend, and Photomerge
Recording actions and printing your images
It's a lot, to be sure. But thanks to Deke's wit, encouragement, and charm, it goes by quickly. His promise: "Give me 7 hours a week for a solid month, and I ll turn you into the most capable Photoshop user you know." Who could say no?
