By Walter Jayawardhana
India’s state owned Oil and Gas Corporation Videsh Ltd. has announced that it will explore for oil and gas in Sri Lanka’s Mannar basin very soon. The ONGC Videsh Ltd said the company’s own experience in India’s Kaveri basin would help them to explore oil and gas in the neighboring Sri Lanka. It has been speculated by geologists that the same Kaveri oil deposit string also runs beneath Sri Lanka’s Mannar bay.

Arrival in Antigua
A 14-year-old boy has arrived in Antigua to become the youngest person to sail the Atlantic single-handed.
Michael Perham, from Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, ended his 3,500-mile voyage when he sailed into Nelson's Dockyard at 1400 GMT.
Michael takes the record from Isle of Wight teenager Seb Clover, who was 15 when he made the crossing in 2003.
Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott called Michael a "successful sailor in the great British maritime tradition".
The teenager, who has spent six weeks at sea, was escorted into dock by a flotilla of boats.

Hindu pilgrims take a holy dip at the start of the 45-day Ardh Kumbh Mela on Jan. 3, 2007. Millions of Hindu pilgrims braved bitter cold and security concerns to gather on the banks of the holy Ganges river for a mass ritual believed to wash away their sins. The fete, known as the Half Pitcher festival, commemorates a mythical battle between gods and demons over a pitcher of the nectar of immortality.
