It is not necessary to mention that year 2007 dawns at a time when not
only Sri Lanka but the whole world is confronted with social, economic
and political challenges. There are quite a few vital challenges we, in
Sri Lanka too have to overcome. These challenges can be identified as
those that have been created but not resolved by history.

Why does a year end and a new year begins? It is for us to get ready to
fulfill the tasks that remain to be fulfilled on behalf of humanity. It
would be exemplary if we could welcome 2007 in that context.

Our main task at present is to waken up the whole Nation to courageously
and successfully confront the challenge aimed at our Motherland by Tamil
Elamist, communalist, separatist terrorism.

We are confronted with the task of defending sovereignty and unitary
state of our Motherland and developing it as a prosperous country while
overcoming challenges thrown in by separatist terrorism. Attempting to
avoid such challenges is nothing else but capitulating to separatist
terrorism and betraying the state of Sri Lanka .

Separatist terrorism could be expected to act with more resolute in year
2007. This is in view of the fact that Velupillai Piribaharan, in his
infamous 'mahaweera' speech, appealed for support from the so-called
international community for his pseudo 'liberation struggle' and with
the completion of five years for the treacherous ceasefire agreement on
the 22nd February, 2007, an opportunity may arise where the semi
diplomatic status the tiger terrorists obtained could elevated to that
of de facto status. The challenges from foreign forces, friendly to
separatist tiger terrorism, against the State of Sri Lanka too could be
expected to be heightened. We emphasize that the year 2007 should be
made the year to rally the whole Nation against separatism, which has
many faces and threaten Motherland on various fronts, as Sri Lanka
cannot progress without such a confrontation.

Also, the pre-condition of the struggle to build Sri Lanka as a country
with social justice and strong economy is defeating separatist terrorism
which divides and weakens Sri Lankan Nation. Challenges come one after
another. JVP would never avoid such challenges. We would take the
leadership to rally the total strength of the Sri Lankan Nation to
overcome the aforesaid challenges.

We wish that year 2007 would be the year to confront challenges and
achieve victory.
