Totally agreed machan..
Machan if you have a PROGRAMMING BACKGROUND(That is you have knowledge in any other programming language) then no doubt you can learn yourself.
BUT
If you don't know any language then learning Java by yourself will not be that easy. In my opinion for any person who is a beginner in programming, Java is the best language to start because it is a high level language and one of the most widely used programming language in the world. You don't get deep technical stuff as C.
Kawuru hari danna ekekgen ahagena patan ganin machan then you can continue yourself..
GOOD LUCK..

U dnt need any pre-requisites bt if u hv a knwledge of C++ or sm programming language it will be a big advantage... Anyway if ur new to programming, it will be lil tough..
there r sm softwares like JPAD PRO that u cn use to type.. but many experts recommend to start java jst with notepad.. it will be lil difficult 2do without any SW bt as a beginner u better start that way...
The book "JAVA-HOW TO PROGRAM" by DEITEL is a good book to refer for a beginner.. I hv da e-book.. u better search fr it on the internet.. If ur buyin it will be around Rs.2000.. I'm also still learnin java...
All da best!

java is one of the most coolest language that i ever know...
its not that hard to learn java byself.. if u have a little knowledge in any programming language.. then that whould be an advantage.. nevertheless u can learn it easily even if u dont....
things goes like this.. first find a source of learning.. i mean a website such as
http://www.javabeginner.com/
or something like that.. u should find ur own net tutor..
then do the exercises one by one.. first you may not know all the theories in java..
one of the most worng thing in teaching java is teach the students all the theories at once.. so even if u dnt understand go do the exercises.. if you get problems use forums like elakiri.com and there are so many who were willing to help others in here...
so be cool.. keep you hand on java..
i appreciate ur decision of not attending classes for java and self studing..
all the best...
