AMD's recently-introduced 65nm Athlon 64 X2 processors haven't even hit stores yet—according to our price search engine, anyway—but HKEPC has word that more 65nm AMD chips are already coming in the very near future. The site says AMD will launch two 65nm single-core Athlon 64s bearing 3800+ and 3500+ model numbers in the middle of this month. The 3800+ model will be clocked at 2.4GHz with 512KB of cache, and the 3500+ will run at 2.2GHz with 512KB of cache, just like the existing 90nm models. The new chips will have thermal dissipation ratings of just 45W, compared to 62W for the current models.
HKEPC also echoes previous rumors of yet more 65nm AMD processors scheduled for the second quarter. The upcoming chips will supposedly include Athlon 64 X2 5200+ and 5400+ models, some low-power Athlon 64 X2s, and a handful of new Semprons.

I hate when they do this. They can continue the Semprons as the single cored CPUs while completely tranforming the A64's to dual core and more. Intel are also gonna release single cored Core @'s (Core 2 Solo), which I don't like. :(

Thats good.Since There is no celerons I dont think AMD should continue Semprons..They could just go with Athlon 64 and Athlon X2.Athlon FX is not 4 us by the way!! :(

I think the reason that AMD is releasing this product is due to market pressure, not because their 65 nm process is faulty. For computers that do not need dual cores, these would be inexpensive to produce, and cheap to buy. Consider as well the really small cooling needs of such a product. I don't think this as a failure by AMD on their process, but rather a decision to provide product to a specific market with specific needs. It also is a channel to funnel defective dual core processors to, so when one core is disabled AMD can still sell it.

Wait for AM3 or later and new tech on 65nm or better (K8L)...

Why would anyone need an AthlonFX even if he/she could afford one?

On the power consumption area, AMD have dual core EE CPUs that have a maximum TDP of 35W on 90nm process tech. Considering how well they have tweaked the 90nm, they should be able to easily make the same CPU 25W on 65nm. On that behalf, I don't think they are doing that great. But we can give them sometime because they've just moved to 65nm.

The only differences AM3 will bring to the current AM2 will be the DDR3 support, iirc. You can install an AM3 CPU in a AM2 motherboard, but you have to go with DDR2. It's the K8L the whole world is looking forward to from AMD's side. It's the only thing that will compete against the current line of CPUs from Intel. But...time is what AMD doesn't have, and what Intel has!

It's better not to be biased to one company. Go for the best.

thats true for Socket 939 AM2.DDR1-->DDR2.Even first they thought of giving the same pin grid for AM@ CPUs as I remember. Its not that AMD needs performance but to compete with Intel..
And do they have separate times for AMD & Intel:lol::lol::lol:

You mean, why I said that to Amila?
I think he's an Intel fanboy, just as you're an AMD fanboy. Fanboysm is not good, at least for use "cheap" Sri Lankans.

Cheap Sri Lankans...
Because we can't get the best CPU of either company. Usually, the ultra highend CPUs from both companies gives similar performances (except X6800). The competition is usually in the midrange. The CPU which gives the best bang for the buck will not always come from the same company. So we will have to switch sides accordingly.

Can AMD'S 65 nm Core Fight Back? (http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/01/08/can-amds-65-nm-core-fight-back/)

Intel's attack is far from over! Their FSB1333 CPUs will hit the market before K8L. A 3GHz Core2Duo might be cheaper than a 2.4GHz K8L even if both give the same performance. AMD is taking too long!
