Ultra-mobile PCs tend to be fairly bulky things, but OQO has unveiled a new UMPC model that's only 14.2cm (5.6") wide and 25mm (1") thick. Despite its small size, OQO's so-called "model 02" has enough horsepower to run Windows Vista. The device packs an ultra-low-voltage VIA C7-M processor running at up to 1.5GHz, a VIA VX700 chipset with integrated graphics, up to 1GB of DDR2 RAM, and a 1.8" hard drive with up to 60GB of storage. The model 02 also has 802.11g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, USB, a built-in microphone, and both VGA and HDMI outputs. Display-wise, the model 02 has a lilliputian 5" LCD with a resolution of 800x480.
As the photo on the side shows, the OQO's display can slide out to reveal a tiny QWERTY keyboard that even has a numeric keypad. By contrast, UMPCs generally rely on an on-screen keyboard or stylus for text input. The OQO model 02's functionality does come at a price, though: the device starts at a wallet-searing $1,499, and it can go up to $1,849 with all the options. OQO quotes a lead time of two to three months, as well.
