What's the point of showing the name of the top downloader? IMO, it's not something to boast about, is it? If we got the torrents thingy working, then we can show the member who maintains the best upload to download ratio. That is something important, because higher the ratio means you are doing something good for the site/members :)

i agree. Its gud to show ratios on torrents but i dont thinks its any use for downloads

But it can go beyond that. Mine sometimes goes up to 200k, but not consistently.

Yeah. Besides, 4:1 ratio it too big, compared to 24Mbps:1Mbps you find in most ADSL2+ connections in other countries.

I don't think the normal connection is as high as 32Mbps. I think it's 8Mbps there. 24Mbps is the highest they have in Australia. So UK can't have 32Mbps as the normal speed. Anyway, they can never get that much.

That friend I know hardly gets even half of that speed. With those speeds, I think the distance from the exchange will come more and more into action. And sure, there are Fibre-to-home connections as well. :shocked:

WIMAX is different. It has nothing to do with CDMA phones. I think SLT will give priority to rural areas where they can't/haven't drawn fibre optic rings.

You mean, kbps :) I used to 54.6k when I had dialup. I normally could download just over 20MB per hour.

For dialup, the distance doesn't matter, because the voice frequency band is always there for any distance. Dialup uses the same voice frequency band of 0.3kHz-3.4kHz. In ADSL, they use a higher frequency band, and this depends on the distance. But again, for 512k connection, the distance doesn't really apply. For example, if you take my place, which is situated about 1.5-1.7km from the exchange, will get nearly as much as 8Mbps bandwidth. So if SLT gives 8M ADSL someday, I might be able to get it without being limited by distance.
