If you want them to move data, then they are great prices. You know, these Kingston drives are very slow. So, if you need speed, stay away from them (the U3 models). But the faster models are really expensive, but you might not be able to find them here in SL.

That's old news ne? They are slowly coming down. In November, 1GB DDR2-667 was around Rs.15,500 and now it's Rs.13,000-13,500. It's still high, but it's coming down.

They are slow not because they are of less quality. Quality is there. But these are the budget versions. DataTraveller basic and U3 are intended for budget markets.

This is what I'm worried about. My current 1GB Transcend JetFlash goes up to 11MB/sec and 9MB/sec. I paid Rs.3,000 for that.

How fast are they compared to flash drives?

I use a U3 2GB drive bought frm the place Djpata mentioned.Visit www.techgsmsl.com for more info.I bought it for 4650 but after 3 weeks it dropped into that price.800 less.Thats the cheapest place u can hav a Kingston flash.BTW the Kingstons r slow. 6 & 3.If u want speed and have money buy a corsair voyager for 7k which has 27 & 12!!If u r on the middle buy a Transcend which has a somewhat powerful program that can lock the PC when Flash isnt plugged in for about 3k.In India Itis about 2600 LKR.

There must be programs that test the speed (sequential read/write and random access). You can use Sisoft SANDRA scored to compare I guess.

Anyways, unless you turn off the paging completely, it will still use the pagefile, and the performance will dip a bit. A fast flash drive can compensate for that, while keeping enough headroom for launching big programs (like games).

Maybe that's an average speed that the manufacturers are putting. What were are getting it just the read/write speeds from/to the flash drive, without taking the filesystem and the actual files into consideration ne. Maybe this is too theoretical. We'll have to find a better program to emulate flashdrive behavior to benchmark them.
