Rockstar Games is proud to announce Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories. Developed by Rockstar Leeds in conjunction with series creators Rockstar North, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories will be available exclusively on the PSP portable entertainment system in North America and Europe following the European launch of the Sony PSP system on October 25. Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories is an entirely new game in the Grand Theft Auto series and brings an unprecedented mobile dimension to this epic experience. The original storyline and all new missions take place in Liberty City, featuring the interactive, open environment, superb voice talent and diverse music that have become pioneering trademarks of the series.
The game is set in 1998 and you play as Tony Cipriani, voiced by Michael "Mr Blonde" Madsen, who also appeared in Grand Theft Auto III. Although Liberty City will have the same basic layout as before there will be changes to reflect the fact that its set three years earlier, while the biggest change will be that the Shoreside Vale area is almost twice as big as before.
The streets of Liberty City are in turmoil. Warring mafioso vie for control as the town begins to self destruct under waves of political corruption, organized crime, drug trafficking and union strikes. No one can be trusted as Toni tries to clean up the mess of the city's chaotic underworld. Deranged hitmen, morally depraved tycoons, cynical politicians and his own mother stand in his way as Toni tries to bring the city under Leone control.
Forced to fight for his life in an odyssey that will shake Liberty City to it's foundations. Toni must use any means neccesary to secure his place in the leadership of the Leone family in a town up for grabs.
Missions have been specially designed to not take quite as long as usual, at an average of just two or three minutes, in deference to the game’s portable format. The PSP is going to be the only format this game will ever be released so this year you’ve got to have a PSP if you want a new Grand Theft Auto. -- Harrison Dent
