if you are burning them as divX files, make sure that the codecs are playable by your player.
Most DVD players can playback DivX and XVid video streams and MP3 Audio streams but most cannot play MP3 in VBR (Variable Bit Rate) format and they support only MP3 in CBR (Constant Bit Rate).
Also most cannot play packed bitstream videos even in though its DivX or XVid.
Also most players cannot play Windows media video our audio as well.

test the avi by burning it on a re writable CD or DVD first. If that format works on your player, then burn it on a regular CD or DVD.
