Punching home a message that Midway is coming to the next-generation with a full stable of goods, the Chicago-based publisher today announced that the game formerly known as Unreal Tournament 2007 is now Unreal Tournament 3. And it's coming to the PC, PlayStation 3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360 in the second half of 2007. Using the Unreal Engine 3 (what other engine would it really use?), Epic's seminal first-person shooter will douse gamers with gorgeous, life-like graphics, arm them with unbelievable futuristic and brutal weaponry, and hurl them into online deathmatches like never before.
Run and gun (and swear like a sailor) like never before in UT3.
The new game comprises a vast number of changes from increased aggressiveness and intelligence in the AI to better, more ridiculously powerful weapons to new characters, game modes, and online improvements. New weapons are highlighted by the long-range Shock Rifle and the shorter range Flack Cannon, and more than two dozen weapons will be ready to wield when UT3 is ready in the second half of 2007.
The new single-player campaign is deeper and more engaging than before, and players will be happy to know that old favorite characters have returned and are joined by several new ones. Epic plans to provide advanced online changes to suit all three platforms, bringing seamless loading, improved matchmaking and co-operative campaign online play. Yes, cooperative online play indeed. Familiar online modes such as Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag will be joined by an all-new Warfare mode among others. And PC gamers will be happy to get their sweaty mitts on the bundled Unreal Engine Toolset, enabling them to build their own levels, game types, rules, mods, and more.
We'll have more on Unreal Tournament 3 soon. In the meantime check the new screens and video.

You got that straight!!! We'll have quite a battle for the best graphics between this and Crysis. Hopefully, this will run on a DX9 card (Crysis will).

Don't. It will not have enough power. Wait for a DX10 card: Geforce 8600 variant or even a 8300 should do, or a X2600 card (if that's what they call them). X1600Pro doesn't even have the power of a 7600GS.

UT Assault fans will be disappointed to hear that Assault mode isn't included in UT 2003. It's been replaced by a new mode called Bombing Run, which has been described as “football with a bomb instead of a ball.”

IC. There was a 7600GS 256MB card for Rs.14,500 at Mitech - one on the first floor at Unity. Well, that's the price they told me. Not sure if that's the true price. But worth a check.

That's one reason you have to buy the latest stuff. They can't possibly have a used 7600GS there, because those cards are new to Sri Lanka.

What it loses in the name change, it looks to make up for in gameplay! Read on and drool as appropriate!
It's also worth mentioning that most of the other players were primarily games [journalists] and not hardcore Unreal Tournament players. Most everyone there was more anxious to get in the closest largest vehicle than to engage in heated close-up weapons combat. That's not to say that there weren't any heated matches, however, just that you'd probably learn more about the gameplay in a half hour with hardcore 'Tournament players than you would three hours with your mainstream game journalist. No offense intended, guys and girls!
I have to point out that this hands-on took place on a single Vehicle Capture the Flag map, so if you're a fan of other gametypes, then your mileage may vary with this preview. The map in question was VCTF-Corruption, an Asian-themed map similar in appearance to this one. The teams were Necris versus Axon, each side with its own brand of vehicles and even a unique map theme. For instance, both featured identical bases, but the Necris side had enormous twisted black tendrils snaking out of the ground and through the architecture, giving the appearance that the mere presence of the species had influenced the landscape - a nice touch. One fun addition to this level was the enormous spinning waterwheel on one side of the map. One pathway lead right through the wheelhouse and through the very spinning spokes of the wheel itself.
