dial up u can get upto like 5 kbps on normal direct downloads
usin stuff like flashget u can get like 6.25. some times close to 7 .... so 15 is bloody gud

I just don't understand how you can ever get more than 7kBps on Dialup. It's not a software limitation. It's a limitation in modems. Unless, your download manager is reporting a false speed.

For example, IDM shows my download speed at over 60kBps most of the times. It has reached evern 100kBps sometimes. Sure it's faster than Flashget. It's because they are using optimized algorithms. I have a network monitor installed, and even when IDM shows 60+ kBps, the network monitor never goes beyond 57kBps.

It's not that similar to Flashget. You might find it a bit hard at first. But, you'll catch up :)

cdma has better speeds thats normal. :yes: its 153.6kbps as i remember.
thats 230kbps shown is between your computer and the device. most Huawei FWTs(fixed wireless terminals) show that speed.
so real speed is around 153kb/8 = 19.125KB per second
well sometimes it reaches over 21 too but normally around 18,19 range.

Since lankabell gives 100hours free internet per month and 10cents per minute as call charges in their economic time (Monday to Saturday 9.00 pm to 7.00 am.
full day on Sundays & Public Holidays) lot of people connect at that time range.
So it’s really slow after 9pm until like 11 or 12am, but Sundays seems good. Anyway good service and value for money from lankabell. :yes:
SLT CDMA charges are really high compared to lankabell, even suntel charge more. And no other operator gives free 100 hours internet per month. i think if you in to CDMA go with lankabell which is a fully srilankan owned company. :yes:

I use Lankabell dial up.It gives 230.4 kbps so thats the fastest CDMA around.U have to buy the HUAWEI phone to get the internet facility.If u bought the ZTE one u have to change it.U can goto 21 kBps download rate with it.I do.

100 hours free permonth.Add min will cost 1rupee.Surf like us with LB.9pm-7am+public holidays+sundays 10 cents per min call charges.So for one hour 6 rs.U can surf all 100 hours with about 750 rs.
SLT doesnt have much bandwidth due to overissueing CDMA phones.In galle u cant even get a call @ night.They connect max @ 115.2 kbps.Rates and phone price is high.Service sucks.Rental high.
Suntel sucks being the slowest.There dialup is the crappiest one being 19.1kbps max.Too charges are very high even the service sucks.CDMA connects max @ 115.2kbps.Service is not good.Too much rules too.
Dialog GPRS is moderate but price is littlebit high.

SLT doesnt have much bandwidth due to overissueing CDMA phones.In galle u cant even get a call @ night.They connect max @ 115.2 kbps.Rates and phone price is high.Service sucks.Rental high.
Suntel sucks being the slowest.There dialup is the crappiest one being 19.1kbps max.Too charges are very high even the service sucks.CDMA connects max @ 115.2kbps.Service is not good.Too much rules too.
Dialog GPRS is moderate but price is littlebit high.

i am not sure if this can be applied to SLT, anyway lets think if you have a connection between two nodes @ 100M, but you have the connection to the 3rd node at 1M and after that same. So even if you have 100M connection between your area it'll not connect you to 3rd or further nodes @100M due to the bottleneck. So may be SLT dont have that huge connections to major bandwidth providers of the world.

Check the driver of the modem its also says HUAWEI Wireless Modem 153.6k

GTRZ, I forgot to mention. There is only the normal copper loop going from a node to a customer. So the speed is limited just like our telephone line is. Only difference is that they don't carry calls; only data. Generally, the maximum speed they are giving through a copper loop is 2M. They said they are giving 8M if needed, but not sure if it's using one copper loop or 4 of them as in 2Mx4. (I was talking about a single location only).

yes this is just the appearence ,i had experienced browsing using CDMA card in a laptop the speed says some thing like 230kbps thing but when browsing intrnet the speed is suck man,its slow than a 56kbps dial up connection.

Hehe it's not normal. I used to get those speeds only in Windows 2000. It never happened in XP. However, the overall browsing experience was faster than normal, but those days I didn't know much about these stuff. :)
