AMD's latest processor releases have more or less been paper launches: Quad FX hardware took weeks to become available, and 65nm Athlons still aren't in stock anywhere according to our price search engine. Now, this trend seems to have reversed rather dramatically. A new Athlon 64 X2 6000+ processor has already appeared at online retailers like Newegg, but AMD hasn't actually announced any such product.

Judging by the product description on Newegg, the X2 6000+ is based on AMD's 90nm process technology and runs at 3GHz with 1MB of L2 cache per core. If these specs are accurate, then this chip is the fastest desktop processor in AMD's lineup. The Athlon 64 FX-62 and Athlon 64 X2 5600+, the two fastest offerings listed in AMD's price list, are both clocked at 2.8GHz. Despite its high speed, the chip is priced at $599, which is cheaper than the FX-62. Thanks to DailyTech for the tip.

But dudes, 6000+ is almost twice as expensive as Intel E6600, which still performs better :(

6 months late, at least 15% too expensive for its performance, and almost twice the power consumption - what a formidable contender that is!

Watching AMD right now is almost as pitiful as watching Intel launch its CedarMill/Presler line-up was. One can only hope their comeback will be as good as Intel's was, too.

TDP is 125W neda? Oh man! Who's gonna buy these CPUs? People who have never heard of Core 2 Duos will. But that's quite impossible because of the way Intel have advertised them. Their (Core 2 Duo's) name is everywhere over the net!!!

A year ago, it was completely the opposite.
