Cheaper GeForce 8800 GTS prepped for shipping?

A couple of weeks ago, the folks at VR-Zone broke news of a purported GeForce 8800 GTS graphics card with 320MB of memory and a lower price tag than the current model. The site now says (http://www.vr-zone.com/?i=4563) Nvidia's partners are ready to ship out so-called GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB cards and that we should see the cards hit stores on February 12. According to previous reports, the card will have the same 96 stream processors, 500MHz core clock speed, and 800MHz memory speed as the current model. However, its price will be shaved down to a cool $299, placing it within the same price range as some of Nvidia's GeForce 7950 GT cards. VR-Zone says some manufacturers will offer overclocked versions of the 8800 GTS 320MB, though, which may spill over the $300 mark.

Hmmm...wonder if the 320MB version (as opposed to 640MB default version) will be fine for the future games. You know, ATI's R600 based flagship model is supposed to have 1GB of RAM. If nVidia is shedding US$100 for 320MB RAM, the R600's whole price will be made of the cost of RAM :D

But Geforce cards will lack memory bandwidth compared to R600

Geforce 8800GTX = 1800MHz x 384bit = 69.12Gbps
R600 (supposedly) = 2000MHz x 512bit = 102.4Gbps (not sure about the memory speed)

Mainly it's the build quality. They don't research much and try to eliminate the places where the bottlenecks are. This will slow down them.

Of course the speed is never enough. You get to become faster with a faster PC components. If you felt your PC was faster a while ago, with the same hardware and software and configuration, it will be slow after a while back. I mean, not because of Windows problems. You'll just feel it's used to be faster. Well, I feel that way. I don't know about you guys.
