One person has been admitted to the hospital and another few persons were injured when supporters of the same political party, ruling United People's Freedom Alliance, clashed for the preferential votes in Nawagamuwa area.
Deputy Inspector General of Police in the area Prasanna Nanayakkara said that the person who was admitted to the Homagama hospital was seriously injured when the rival group shot him.
According to the DIG Nanayakkara the clash took place when two groups of the ruling party were engaged in a poster campaigns for the upcoming Western Provincial Council election.
This was the first election related violence among the ruling UPFA supporters despite an order by the leader of the ruling party, President Mahinda Rajapaksa to the candidates in the election not to fight for preferential votes.
