View Full Version : Buying a UPS battery

I just held back the idea of going for a new UPS. I think why my UPS can't hold the PC powered up in the battery mode is because the battery is weak.
So I'm thinking about buying a battery and seeing if it does the job. If it doesn't go too well, I will buy a new UPS.
Does anyone know where to buy UPS batteries?

Cool. You know, I'm going to Pettah on everyday this week (SLT HQ is in Fort). I'll check with Multi Electronics. Guess I have to check the battery model first.

Hey just saw this thread
I got a new 12v 7Ah battery for my 600va UPS, now it works fine than earlier, but costed me 1000/= , they were available in 2 shops in Kandy, but was same price on both shops
Now works fine, even holds my 17" monitor on for 15mins on powercuts, but once in a while, on a sudden power loss, pc restarts  But works most of the time :)

PC restart is because of your crappy power supply.
Which UPS do you have? If it's a PowerTree S600B, can you tell me the battery's specifications? I can't be bothered to open up the UPS :D

Oh didin't see these.
I didn't buy a battery. Still not sure if I should. Maybe I will drain the full life out of the current battery. :D
How you PSU should be blamed....
When power fails, UPS takes some time to switch to battery mode. Very low, but this is all it needs to reset the PC. The PSU's capacitors should be able to power the PC until the UPS switches to the battery mode. If the PSU is not good enough, the capacitors can't do that - they drain before the UPS is fully switched to the battery mode. When the PC load is more (eg: playing a game), the capacitors will discharge quickly, so there is a bigger chance of discharging them before the UPS switches. This time which the PSU runs with its capacitors is called holdback time. If this is lower than the UPS' switching time, PC will reset.

That, I don't really care. If the batteries are good, that's all I need. BTW, my UPS is more than 3 years old. So maybe its the right time to change the batteries.
