Post you best Vista uptimes with proof from the task manager :)

I'll post mine. This is not the best uptime. But I can't show you proof of the best uptime.

I can't keep Vista running for too long now. :(
Hibernation and Standby all of a sudden aren't working with cFosSpeed. I need that software, so I gave up standby and hibernation (mainly the latter).

I see you have 3GB RAM too. Wonder why you are using a pagefile. You don't seem to be using much appz anyway....

You can disable page file.BTW I'm not recommend it

Why not? Vista informs that you are running out of memory when you are at 80% of RAM usage (RAM + pagefile). I get it when I go beyond 2.4GB , mainly when I play games, but very seldomly. Vista wouldn't crash...

Gomida
09-20-2007, 09:39 PM
But I use hibernating mode al da time.. so for me even if it's abt 100Hours.. it will be actually more dan 4 and a half days :D

Not lower. Disable it completely. Run everything from RAM. Vista will be very responsive. Vista shuts down very fast as well.

Any way, still most geeks recommend to keep the default settings... I also disabled the page file, as Anusha said n it really did show some performance increase, yet, enabled it again 'cause most of the forums recommended to do so... Ny way, giv it a try.... ;)

even for a machine that has 4GB a page file is recommended because there is a probability [even though its small] of running out of stack space, or no free space to be newly allocated. But windows has a very poor page file usage, so disabling it raises the performance to a very good level. Windows' pagefiles are fragmented all over. Search for a page file defragmenter to boost ur pagefile performance. Or boot up a linux installation n see the swapping system for a change, and because of the neatness of it's paging linux runs faster even though the physical ram is low. If you hav a SATA raid disk ..rock on u'll be flyin wit a 256MB ram.. on full load:P

Yeah, I agree that having a page file is safe... But, I also did use linux (ubuntu) for about a month but for me, Windows was performing far better... Hmm.... Why was that

Well, a processor of atleast 1.5GHz, 512RAM minimum and some excess space in ur hard drive will do it... Better the specs, the better it'll perform... :P

Unlike windows you have to configure linux, and in the other hand most of the machine's hardware might not be supported by the distro's configured drivers. And if you considered linux startup speeds with windows, sure windows is the camp there, but if you can go see ubuntu's services...theres a hell of a lot than windows. If you have hardware by nVidia, ATI, INTEL, AMD they can be configured for optimal performance ...search for an article on da net abt that o goto youtube n watch a vdo on how to get the optimal performance from ur pc...unlike windows you cant get the best output by jst installing a distro on ur machine, u hav to configure it.
