Problems over playback of HD DVD and Blu-ray Discs sends paying customers to the complaint desk
A select group of customers who have paid nearly $100 for CyberLink’s PowerDVD for its HD playback capabilities have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, claiming that the software does not perform as advertised.
Jeff, a member of the CyberLink forums, complains that the PowerDVD software is not correctly playing HD DVD and Blu-ray content, despite his computer meeting the requirements set by CyberLink. Other users with the problem report that getting an “Error Code 0103,” when playing HD video through HDMI.
Many suspect that HDCP could be the main factor being the error, but users report that their systems are HDCP compliant and CyberLink’s software recognizes it as so.
Users who are experiencing this problem are also expressing dissatisfaction with CyberLink’s apparent inaction and lack of support. Jeff is seeking a full refund for the $99.95 that he originally paid for the software. Another user, who commented on the story at Engadget, explained how he was able to get a refund after experiencing the same problem.
Other forum readers comment that those who are experiencing problems with HDCP can easily bypass it by decrypting HD DVD or Blu-ray Discs.
