The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) Trade Unions including the Lanka Viduli Sevaka Sangamaya charged yesterday that several areas in the country experienced unofficial power cuts during the past couple of days.
Lanka Viduli Sevaka Sangamaya President Ranjan Jayalal said the government was attempting to save electricity by unofficial power cuts and alleged that this was due to the governments’ failure to manage the reservoirs properly.
CEB Chairman E.A.S.K Edirisinghe rejected the charge and said the power failure experienced in many parts of the country was due to technical problems that needed at least 30 minutes to rectify.
He said the alternative energy sources like generators were working at full capacity at peak times between 6:30 pm and 9:30 pm. At present we are totally dependent on the thermal power plants and it normally trips when over loaded.
