IMO and most other's opinion, installing Norton Suites is no better than having viruses in your system. They both do SLOW DOWN you system.

Use NOD32 as the virus guard. It's the best in the world. Don't believe me? Try it out and see.

Too bad that they don't make a Firewall. Windows Firewall is OK as long as you don't want to control outgoing traffic.

NOD32 doesn't have a firewall. It's just an anti-virus software; not a full suite like most other companies make. But the best AV in the world. Some may argue Kaspersky is the best, but Kaspersky's heuristics scanning is not as powerful as NOD32's and NOD32's definitions are not as big as Kaspersky's. IMO, heuristics scanning should come on top, because it might still stop viruses even if it's not listed in the definition files (because new viruses come before they (AV Companies) implement the detection procedures in the definition file so no good updating the definition files after you get infected :))

If you have Windows XP SP2, then the in-built firewall is enough. But mind you that it will control only the incoming traffic. Use a 3rd party Firewall only if you wanna control outgoing traffic. Besides, Windows' inbuild FW doesn't make my surfing slow, as ZoneAlarm once did.

iam also usin norton 2006 with built in firewall. ive used nod and kaspersky both rated better than norton in AV section. but overal(worm,AV,firewall)l best is norton (2006) for me. doesnt take much mem as other nortons too.

I tell you what...
I would download Norton Antivirus 2006 (or is it Norton Internet Security?) today and try to compare both of them.
Will take some time cos I'm having exams these days.
I haven't use Norton in a while, so I can't say whether or not it is improved. I can say one thing though. The only reason why I moved to NOD32 was because it is very fast (I mean, it doesn't bring the PC onto its knees) compared to the last Norton version I tried. However, I agree with you if you are talking about Symantec AntiVirus, because it's very close to NOD32 in terms of performance. Getting to know that NOD32 was the best in the world was a value addition, rather than the primary requirement of mine.

Forgot to mention one thing.
Norton Antivirus 2006 setup is 186MB where as NOD32 is only 10MB, and NOD32 has highest or the second highest detection rate (Kaspersky being its competitor). See how much Norton is bloated?

I have use Kaspersky also, but I can definitely say that I noticed a performance lag after installing it (compared to when I had NOD32). So I thing NOD32 is still the best.

If you have a fast machine you can't sense that Norton sucking your system resources when you are doing normal work, Even Symantec Corporate Edition use more resources than NOD32. i need power so i normally disable even NOD32 when i need. I can really sense the difference of NOD32 and Norton.

NOD32 is the world leader of the Virus Bulletin 100% awards having won more awards than any competing product.
You can check the test results from their website.

Here some graphs from other testing sites.

Don't trust anything put up on the manufacturer's site :D
I'm sure it doesn't show such dramatic results, but the ability of NOD32 to maintain best performance while providing best shiled is really admirable.

i have installed and tested most of those AVs it's true with norton but not with kaspersky. Kaspersky faster and better than Mcafee.
But NOD32 really faster than Norton man. I think these stats are correct when it comes to Norton.
Other thing i trust Virus Bulletin stats.

Yeah, my whole system can be scanned within 10 minutes (for standard scan) and within 30 minutes (for in-depth scan).
This is more than 200GB I'm talking about :)

Open office better than office xp? Who uses office xp nowadays? Open Office performs terribly in Windows, although they are fine in Linux environments. Anyway, once you move into Office 2007, you will never go back to a previous version. It's just awesome.
