The Corel WordPerfect Lightning program properly syncs notes on a PC with the Internet
Corel yesterday released the first public beta of WordPerfect Lightning, a free application that takes care of word processing and note taking while being an important step as Corel tries to boost its online services model. WordPerfect Lightning has been described by analysts as the first step that Corel is making in an attempt to create and distribute new services for WordPerfect Office. Corel pointed out that the application is not a WordPerfect replacement -- it is better designed to be a type of bridge between documents and the Internet.
"By blending desktop and web applications in Wordperfect Lightning, Corel is taking a truly hybrid approach to computing," said Richard Carriere, Corel's general manager for office productivity.
The program has a "Notes" tool that allows users to save text and images, along with a "Viewer" tool that is able to Microsoft Word, Adobe PDF, or Corel WordPerfect files. Another tool included is the "Navigator" tool that allows users to properly organize files and content.
The download is 20MB and is compatible with both Microsoft XP and Vista. Those who wish to download Corel WordPerfect Lightning may visit the Corel download site. Those using computers without the program installed can still utilize Lightning's online site to access saved data.
