The Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) today announced that the title-'Ranaviru'-(valiant soldier) will not be permitted to be used as a pre-fix for electioneering campaign without the prior approval of Secretary, Defence.
Director, MCNS,Lakshman Hulugalle in a statement claimed that some persons were using such a revered title quite irresponsibly for polls campaigns through the print and electronic media and, as well as on poster and print material.
Hulugalle emphasised that those who served the armed forces and those who are in active service viewing themselves as candidates would be exclusively considered for the service rendered to the motherland to be granted special written approval by the Defence Secretary for the use of the title- Ranaviru.
The MCNS Director further stressed that apart from such personnel in the armed forces or those who have left the services following accepted procedures, no other person would be permitted to use the Ranaviru title.
The Defence Ministry has requested media organisations to refrain from contravening the stipulated regulations with regard to the title-Ranaviru- when carrying election advertisements in the print and electronic media.
