Help with iPod!

Hey guys,can u help me?
I need a way to download music without paying frm the iTunes store.Can u help?
Also i removed the Album artwork from the ipod by unticking the "display album artwork feature in iTunes 7.Then i recheked it , i can only see images on itunes,not on ipod.It says "Unknown error occured when optimizing artwork!!

Can't you just copy the tracks on your hard drive to iPod through iTunes?
