Looks like there are number of Nokia 5800 XM users here, so I thought of putting up a separate thread for all sorts of information, applications, tips & tricks meant for 5800 XM. These will also work with Nokia N97 and other phones running Symbian 9.4 (AKA S60 5th Edition) OS. I created a similar thread some time back hoping to continuously update it, but for some reason I couldn’t edit the first post after a while. Since I didn’t want to post new things as new posts in that thread making it difficult to find everything at one place, I thought of starting up a new thread. Hopefully I’ll be able to edit this as and when I find new stuff.
Information
Nokia 5800 XM Service manual (http://rapidshare.com/files/196307550/ServiceManual_L34_5800xpress.rar) with detailed information on how to disassemble/reassemble the phone. With this information you can repair it yourself.
How to hack the 5800 (http://www.elakiri.com/forum/showthread.php?t=206250) (I did it, so I can personally guarantee that it works), this will let you install unsigned applications.
5800 XM blogs (you can find latest application releases and firmware releases):
nokia5800.net (http://nokia5800.net/)
The iphone Killer (http://www.tube5800.com/)
Current firmware version : v21.0.025
Useful Applications
Networking
SymSMB : Access your phone over a wireless network (http://www.elakiri.com/forum/showthread.php?t=207066). You can now copy files over your wireless network, this is much faster than using Bluetooth. You can also stream MP3s shared on the network.
Internet
Fring (http://reg.fring.com/app/getfring.sis?m=94) : Multiprotocol IM Client with voice support
eBuddy v1.2 (http://www.easy-share.com/1904683946/eBuddy.zip) : Another Multiprotocol IM Client (NO voice support, but supports Facebook chat)
Opera Mini v4.2.14320 (http://www.easy-share.com/1905189758/opera.rar) : Opera mobile web browser (Java)
Utilities
PhoneTorch (http://dev.meh.at/files/PhoneTorch.sisx) : You can use your camera flash LED as a torch, additionally you can send Morse code messages
Epocware Handy Clock (http://www.smartsharing.net/download.php?id=C949902A1) : A new clock with calendar , alarm and Stopwatch functions
Virus guards
I don’t believe we need a virus guard for this platform yet. IMO it will only unnecessarily drain the battery. But if you are really interested then you can install Kaspersky Mobile Secuirty v8.0.48 for S60v3&v5 (http://www.smartsharing.net/download.php?id=D52A42A11)
Customizations
Themes

Do we really need one ? Personally I don’t use a virus guard, and I don’t see the point of wasting my phone resources (mainly the battery life) by running a useless back ground app. Have you ever come across a symbian virus? I don’t receive nor open any suspicious SMSs or emails, and I don’t communicate with unknown Bluetooth devices either. However, I do install cracked software, but most of the time I download them directly from the developer’s website (with a PC keygen from somewhere else) or from a known forum after reading all the comments. And I don’t install each and every little fancy app out there on the net. Only the most important tools, so I think I’m ok without a VG.

Sure I will, I’m planning to keep updating as I find new stuff, at least till I get bored with the phone or get a new one :P . Right now there is a time limit for editing a post, I contacted GTRZ about it, hopefully he’ll do something to fix it. Otherwise I’ll ad new stuff as posts in this thread or as new threads.

It differs from country to country, in sri lanka shops get there phones from different countries, so it cant be directly said which accessories you get.
But i got mine from a cmb shop, its a Hungarian made one ( most shops now have those)
it had :
~Nokia 5800 Phone
~8GB card
~1 stylus (some countries get extra stylus)
~casing
~usb data cable (short one)
~TV out cable
~3.5mm stereo handsfree
~charger
~2 desk stands (funny thing is i got 1 stand packed in a polythene bag and another stand in the polythene bag which contained the case)

Some players meant for the S60v3 also works on 5800 XM, but they don’t have hardware acceleration, therefore video playback is extremely slow. Next major release of the popular CoreCodec Core Player (http://forum.corecodec.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=2714) will support DivX with hardware acceleration on 5800 XM. Wait a while for them to relase it and then few more days for someone to crack it...:P Till then you'll have to convert your videos to WMV/RV/MP4/3GP formats.
I'll post here as soon as I come across a HW accelerated DivX player
