It will be different from person to person. I can't say what's the best, but the following shows are very good.
1. Stargate SG-1
2. Stargate Atlantis
3. Smalville
4. 24
5. Prison Break
6. Heroes (but I haven't watched it yet)
7. Battlestar Galactica (you have to watch the movies first)
8. Alias
9. Supernatural
10. Seinfeld Chronicles

Anyway, if one is interested, these two are good too.
* That 70s Show (pretty funny :D)
* The 4400 (the first season - 5 episodes iirc, and first few episodes of the second season are a bit boring, but friends said it was good in the middle and end parts of the 2nd season)

I like "Doctor Who". Its the longest running Science Fiction series in the world. Its been going for about 40 years!(first aired in 1960). Season 29 is now airing on BBCi.
