Corporal Prasanna Rathna of the Army was on a foot patrol with a group soldiers along the KANKASANTHURAI road when he heard a small girl crying for help around 10.00 a.m. yesterday (12). The cry for help came from a house that was ablaze near the MANORAJ cinema on the KANKASANTHURAI road in JAFFNA.
Despite encroaching flames Prasanna ran in to save the little girl. He was able to rescue four year old Danushka who was all alone trapped inside the house at the time of the fire. The owner of the house, MUTHUKUMAR NEMDARAN had gone to a shop nearby at the time the fire broke out due to a power leakage from a workshop inside the house.
The fire had destroyed the property including all the electric goods in the house.
