SchoolNet hosts Ubuntu Releases and Archive Mirror

SchoolNet is now hosting Ubuntu Releases and Archive Mirror. With this a long felt need of local Linux community has been addressed. Linux Users can now get updates or download new releases from these mirrors. The mirror is updated daily.
This mirror is listed at

The repositories contain both the i386 (32bit) platform and the AMD64(64bit) platform.

It has the following Ubuntu versions:
Dapper (6.06)
Hardy (8.04)
Intrepid (8.10)
Jaunty (9.04)
Karmic (9.10)
Edit your /etc/apt/sources.list file


sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list

First comment out the existing repository lines by adding a # to the beginning of the line
Then :
For Dapper add :


deb http://archive.ubuntu.schoolnet.lk/ubuntu/ dapper main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://archive.ubuntu.schoolnet.lk/ubuntu/ dapper-security main restricted universe multiverse

Its a full mirror for those given Ubuntu versions.
Got the updates, Security, Backports and Proposed repositories.

wow awesome man. Is this a part of "Mahinda Chinthanaya" ? :lol:
BTW they have to do another thing that push Linux into IT syllabus and remove M$ shit and install a free OS like Linux in School PCs.:yes:

well the mirror is hosted by the education ministry.

As for removing MS from the sylabus, not likely to happen when MS are giving free OSes to the ministry as well as educational institutes but I do agree that they have to remove MS form the sylabus and instead teach the theory and use an open source software for the practicals.
