Grade 8 text books printed by Educational Publications Department for year 2008 are being transported in 50 lorries to Valachchena Paper factory to be recycled and produce paper say reports. Knowing that the syllabus was to be changed in 2010 printing such a large number of text books had been carried out to get more commissions say sources. According to internal sources of the Ministry of Education the total cost of the books to be recycled is Ra.250 million.
Transporting of the books from stores at Orugodawatta, Salusala and Deans Road to Valachchena Paper factory commenced on 15th July. The lorries having Reg. Nos. 26 Sri 3240, 48-7429, 227-8344 and 41-6657 that belongs to the Ministry of Education and lorries supplied by ‘Sirisara’ transport service have been used to transport the books. The Ministry of Education pays Rs.69,000/- for each lorry hired to transport the books to Valachchena factory.
