The frail lady, named as Virginia Dotson and believed to be 84 (some reports say 87), was in the parking lot of a Walmart in Whitehall, Ohio, in August 1, when she was attacked by a woman police officer.
Dotson’s daughter said she left her mother Virginia Dotson in the vehicle while she ran into Walmart for a "necessary purchase in the move she was making with her mother." She said her mother found a steak knife in the vehicle, cut herself out of her seat belt and took the knife with her while searching for her daughter.
She told NBC she was not concerned because she wouldn’t be gone long and her mother doesn’t know how to open seat belts.
It is believed that the confused elderly and frail woman cut herself in the effort to free herself from the seat belt and that some shoppers were alarmed by the sight of the knife still in her hand and blood. It is also believed some children challenged her or spoke to her on account of her carrying the knife and bleeding, and that she may have responded by hitting out at them in her confused state due to her suffering from Alzheimers disease.
A by-stander recorded on video while Whitehall white woman police officer Tammy Scott approached Dotson swiftly whilst simultaneously asking her to put the knife down then without any pause in her approach, grabbed hold of Dobson and smacked her to the ground. Dotson's head cracked open on the concrete and immediately started losing blood.
The witness said that some children "said something about her hating them or something." This appears to have been misreported as Dotson "hitting" them.
The crowd, which included many African-Americans (Black Americans) was incensed at this action and lack of restraint, but was prevented from intervening by Scott and one other armed officer who demanded those present "back off." The police called for reinforcements which arrived soon and dispersed onlookers.
With white U.S. police officers infamous for shooting dead often unarmed black citizens, and receiving no punishment nor demotion for doing so, this was an order that was heeded by all Black people present at the scene in spite of their anguish at the enormity of the unjust situation unfolding with disbelief in front of their eyes.
No attempt was made by the police to section off the area first, and commentators on the Internet wonder why police would not have the training in the many ways to remove a knife from a frail almost 90 year old without such force.
Apparently the police officers also made no attempt to size up the situation first, to cordon off the area and then to buy time or attempt at reasoning, nor to use as a last resort more suitable methods such as throwing a net over the octogenarian Dotson if she remained non-compliant.
The willingness to act swiftly and use maximum force "act first and ask questions later" is an increasingly common method of western police forces often trained by Israeli "security consultants" and has lead to an increasing number of unnecessary deaths as well as rising distrust or even hostility toward police forces by peaceful and law abiding citizens of those states.
The man who filmed the scene, Stan Brown, told NBC: 'There was some kids out there talking to this old lady, and they said something about the old lady hitting them or something.
'I believe it could have been taken care of a lot easier than that. I kind of think that was too much force with her being that old.'
It is amazing that the elderly victim did not suffer a heart attack during the ordeal as she remained pinned to the ground for several minutes after the police aggression.
Dr Richard Weinblatt, the white raced director of the Institute for Public Safety at Central Ohio Technical College and a favorite propaganda piece for major U.S. media networks said regarding the police action "you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't... The officer did what she had to do."
Dotson has not been charged with any crime. This incident has not been reported in U.S. media despite the good video footage which showed the scene before the police arrived, as well as during and after, and showed that the lady posed no immediate threat to anyone.
