The Ministry of Education has charge sheeted a former principal of a leading girls’ school in Colombo on 137 counts, for allegedly taking money from parents in violation of existing regulations.
A committee comprising an accountant and an attorney at law had been appointed to investigate the conduct of the school principal when the Public Services Commission was still functional. A senior spokesman of the Ministry of Education said that the charge sheet had been prepared on the basis of that committee’s findings. He added that this was the first time an educational officer had been served a charge sheet containing so many charges.
Levying a fee for admission, coaxing parents to pay, receiving payments in an irregular manner, and violation of ministerial circulars are some of the 137 charges in the charge sheet
The ministry has given the principal one month to answer.
The principal had been interdicted by the ministry authorities on a directive by the Public Services Commission.
