Sharad Pawar-led Indian cricket Board has refused to take the blame for the team’s shameful performance in the 2007 World Cup. Instead, it has just shot down the first victim.

Axe has fallen on coach Greg Chappell, who has been informed that his contract will not be renewed. The former Australian skipper’s contract with the Indian team ended with the game against Sri Lanka, which Rahul Dravid’s men lost by 69 runs.

Said a top BCCI source, “The formal announcement will be made by Board president Pawar in a few days’ time but we have conveyed our feelings to the players and also to Chappell. He has been told that he can pack his bags.”

Rahul Dravid was also appointed skipper only till the World Cup and his fate hangs in balance. Dravid himself admitted that he is no longer the skipper. There is intense anger in India, and heads were bound to roll.

Like he played rash shots....
Like he was the one who didn't run well....
Like he had something to do with our fielding...
Like he told the Indian batsmen not to play well...
Like he let the grip off slowing down the Sri Lankan scoring...

The list goes on.

There is nothing wrong with Dravid, infact he is the only player that played well all around in that match,

He saw SL running away with the match and bought Ganguly into the attack and straight away got result.. that's good captency... the ability to contain this super SL team to 250 is a great achievement..

He batted well... considering that he had immense pressure of being the captain and a horror movie was played right infront of him by SL team...

He has always been there for India, it's so called "Master"players like Tendulkar that should be questioned!!! If India sack Dravid from his captaincy they'll regret it!!

well, u really cant blame chappell cos i am sure that he trained the players to the best of his ability and dat is all he can do, he cant go on to the field and bat or bowl for them, it is the duty of the players to play.

neither is dravid at fault, u just have to blame poor selection and the selection committee!!!!!! sehwag, dhoni, tendulkar, irfan pathan should have never been in the team, they were out of form and should have been dropped, they wasted dinesh karthik he is an awesome batsman /keeper and can take much better catches than dhoni and is a more mature cricketer! sehwag was in terrible form, and tendulkar's power is on the wane!!

the selectors will have to take a cue from the aussie selectors and start selecting players based on their current form and not past performance and reputation!! I APPLAUD THE AUSSIES SELECTORS FOR THEIR BRAVENESS WHEN SELECTING PLAYERS!!!!
