Ok...We already know that its hard for us to make our super computer because of the prices....one of my friends told me if i can fix a 1st class or 2nd class (Price 6000-8000Rs) agp card on an average motherboard with a ram of 512mb(average for us i assume) can give you a superb grafix pc for middle class people like us....

Ok, it seems you need some help from a professional :D - just kidding.
It is correct that the video card is THE bottleneck in most new games (games released in the last 1 or 2 years). So if you can couple your existing system with a good card, then you should be able to play them significantly better. For example, a AMD K6-2 500MHz with 32MB Rage128 Pro is not that bad compared to a P4 3GHz with that card, when it comes to gaming. Both perform pretty much the same. So if you need to unleash the power of the P4, you need a far better card.
But....
Video cards are most difficult to find computer devices in Sri Lanka. Either they are about 100% over priced, or they are not imported at all. I have a Radeon 9600 Pro and it's fine for normal people (by far) but is a total junk card compared to even the previous card I had (R9700Pro - it burnt :()
I can play NFSMW only at 800x600 with 2x AA but with most of the settings turned to max. This pile of crap can't overclock either. Those games mentioned by Mushain are very old (except NFSMW, but it also is close to a year old now). For the record, this card only scored 400 odd 3dMark06 marks. The highend cards score around 5000 or even 7000. Ultra highend cards (configurations) will score close to 15000 marks.
Stay away from Geforce6 6800x cards because they are power hungry bastards. But if they are cheap (still 4 or 5 times expensive than what spindoct is looking at), go for them. You can still play games pretty well (maybe not at full eye candy) with them.
Those cards that fall under Rs.7000 are not even considered as poor man's cards (i.e. not even entry level cards). Mine falls under that too. If you are looking at class 1 cards, well, they costs usually US$1300 (without tax) That's Rs.130,000 or more. Those are the quad SLI configurations with a whopping 2GB frame buffer!!!
You need at least a Geforce 7600GS or Radeon X1600XT card to play (modern) games. Those retail at around US$130-180.
And 512MB RAM is so ancient! If you really need to play games, you need 1GB RAM. Remember, the upcomming games such as Crysis, Unreal Tournament 2007 etc require a minimum of 768MB RAM to play. 1.5GB is the recommended for them. You need at least 2GB of RAM to play them at full glory, without random pauses (paging???).
So if you are not gonna spend at least Rs.10,000 on a video card, then don't bother playing games, or try to live with onboard video, because it will just make you heart broken when your new Rs.7000 card can't handle most of the games. I don't play much games anymore because of it.
For anyone going for the ultra highend segment, it's better to stick with nVidia because their dual chip 7950 consumes less power than a single Radeon X1900XTX card, and usually performs better. If you go for ATI, you will need a mosnter of a Power Supply Unit (nothing less than 500W)

thanks..all...i think im gonna have to buy an intel mother board with on board pciexpress....:( (how ever i have played NFSMW on it with full throttle but slow, and i have played the same on an average 128mb AGP card[not pci express] and it was better than hte on board....)
but at the end whats the conclution...if i want to go for an average pc with a bit of extra grafix power...what should i do.......

You still have to spend some money on the video card. It's a matter of striking a balance.
For example, there's no point going for the latest state-of-the-art CPU if you don't have fast RAM and a fast hard drive to back it up. People having slower CPUs, but having a good balance will have a better experience than you. It should not happen.
If you are buying a computer or updating the existing computer for a specific need, you should focus on it more. The first thing a gamer should look at is the video card. The first thing a graphics desginer should look at is the CPU/Memory (Video card plays some part, but even the onboard graphics chips can do really well in 2D mode. It's the raw processing power that they lack.) combination. Likewise, no point having the fastest CPU without having the necessary support from graphics card and memory.
If you can afford a Geforce6 6600 (non-gt), a lite/normal gamer should feel happy. For me, it's not enough, because I've already experienced about the same performance with my R9700Pro card. What I'm looking at is the Geforce 7600GS (because that's fastest card available for AGP - I'm still on AGP :()
I haven't checked the current prices, so I can't tell you what you should buy. But if you can tell me some cards, by model, which falls under your budget margin, I would be able to help you to pick the best out of the lot.
Cheers,
Anusha

ya...really thanks a lot machan..i will get back to you on that....another thing machan...if i wher to buy an ;
Intel 815GEV(This Has onboard PCI Express VGA) (12500Rs)
1GB(512x2) RAM (xxxxRs?)
SATA 60GB Hard (xxxxRs?)
VGA(PCI Express) 128MB = What Brand? What Model?
Power Supply =xxxxWatts ?
[Is there a better Motherboard than this....? ive hurd that intel fails on hot countrys, but the ASUS stands up to it...? if so is there an spesific ASUS Board?]
  :)

I think you mis-spelt the model number of the motherboard. It is 915GEV right?
Anyway, 512MB Kingston (Value RAM though) cost me Rs.5000 with 3 year warranty, 3 months ago. Present prices should be around Rs.4500 or even less.
Don't buy a 60GB SATA drive. Larger drives are very cheap now. You can buy more that 100GB for less than Rs.7000 I think (not sure though).
There are a lot of better motherboards than this, LOL. They go up to around Rs.28,000 I guess. Anyway, the onboard graphics chip in those motherboards sucks (even if you allocate 256MB RAM for it).
Intel or ASUS or whatever would fail, if it fails. We can't predict anything when it comes to computer hardware. If you buy Intel, you can't overclock. If you buy ASUS, you can overclock. That's the main differences I see in them. It's the brand loyalty which drives the idea of selecting a brand. For example, I have had very bad experiences with Gigabyte (my Rs.35,000 worth Radeon 9700Pro card failed, DVD Burner failed, Motherboard is not doing really well, current graphics card is pathetic, two of my friend's Rs.22000 motherboards failed etc.). So I wouldn't buy any Gigabyte stuff again. But most of you will not agree with me. But I can't help it.
If you wanna play decent games and OK quality levels, you should at least go for a Geforce6 6200 card. The Gigabyte's card overclock very well (but again, it's a Gigabyte so I wouldn't buy it even for half the price). It's almost equal to the performance of a Radeon 9600Pro.
Since you have PCI Express, you havea wider choice. I don't know the prices so I can't recommend anything since you are a price concious buyer. Give me a choice and I will pick you the best out of the lot.

That is crap! Anyone who gives a configuration like that should be hanged. Because anyone can come up with something like that. You need the details.
For example, 256MB graphics cards are there from about US$50 to US$350 :D
SLI configurations are available from abuot US$250 to US$1250 :D
Those processors alone are easily more that US$750 :D
What about the Power Supply Unit? For 840 CPU, you need a 450+ CPU because they alone consume more than 150W in burn mode :D

What I meant by my last post was that when you are giving away specs of a PC, you should at least give a bit more details such as,
CPU: AMD AthlonXP 2600+ Thoroubred 'B' 2.133GHz
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-7N400 Rev.2
Video: ATI Radeon 9600Pro, 128MB
RAM: Kingston ValueRAM, 512MB, DDR400 (x2)
Hard Drives: Samsung Spinpoint SP1604N 7200RPM, ATA100, 160GB (x2)
DVD Burner: Benq DW1640, 16X Dual Layer DVD Burner
Monitor: Prolink PRO775CA, 17", Flat screen CRT
TV Tuner: PixelView PlayTV Pro2
PSU: Fortrex FP-500W-14, 500W
You should try to give the model numbers as much as possible, so that any person who needs to learn more about them can do it by googling or whatever means necessay. Just by saying 256MB video card, one cannot know which exact card he is refering to. It could be a 256MB X300 (which is very slow) or 256MB X1900XT (which is very fast, about 20 times faster than the former).
What I wrote above is only to show how one should write a proper confiuration. More the details, the better. If one can include BIOS versions, revision numbers, codename of the CPU core (because AMD have a lot of code names such as Venice, San Diego, Winchester, Manchester, Toledo...all in the Athlon64 family of CPUs and sometimes they are identical in performance, sometimes they are not - at the same clock speed, I mean) it would be easier to track down the exact product, if a person is interested in it.
