For the folks who were holding off on buying Vista until the first Service Pack was out. :
A senior Microsoft official said the company doesn't plan to issue a major service pack for Windows Vista because the operating system is "high quality right out of the gate." Another reason is that new tools such as Windows Update allow Microsoft to dribble out smaller fixes to its new OS whenever necessary.

I wonder if the guy emphasized on the word "Major" as in major functionality. We've already heard news that SP1 is in the works and it will be released within this year. I don't think they will give it up after doing all the hard work.

We'll just have to wait and see.
