A British recording industry group says that Internet service providers are cooperating with its requests to suspend accounts used to share copyrighted music files without permission, but one of the providers said BPI did not provide sufficient evidence. The BPI, which represents hundreds of record companies, as well as manufacturers and distributors, announced Monday that it had requested Tiscali and Cable & Wireless to suspend a total of 59 accounts used for illegal file sharing. The group announced Wednesday that it was pleased to learn that the providers were cooperating with its attempts to fight piracy.

However, Tiscali representatives have told British media that they only received evidence on one of 17 accounts named by BPI. The rest of BPI’s evidence included only ISP addresses and times the accounts were allegedly used for illegal activities.

Meanwhile, record labels in the United Kingdom have announced that they, too, will ask ISPs to suspend accounts.
