View Full Version : What's your best Windows XP uptime?

I'm talking about Windows XP :D
How long have you been able to run it straight without shutting down? Hibernation doesn't count as a shutdown, because all the programs & stability problems are still there when you resume. But the time you keep it in hibernation doesn't count OK. The computer has to be running.
For me, it's almost about 5 days, and counting. At the moment, there are no errors at all. Windows is behaving really well. But this will not go for too long, because when Vista RC1 is released, I will switch to it (fulltime hopefully).

You can check the uptime in system information (easier if you go to command prompt and type systeminfo
But I don't know if it also counts the time the computer was in standby.

My 5 days ARE in a row, except for 0730hrs and 1130hrs break today as I had to go for an exam. Can't take the chance of leaving it ON because of the power failures. Yes, my UPS doesn't have that "autoshutdown" feature in a power failure. I should buy one that supports it.
I started this thread mainly because people are having the misconception that Windows XP is a least stable OS in the world.

Are you crazy? They are releasing RC1 in a few days. Vista will released manufacturers in October; MS keeping to their promises for a change.

Yes there are workarounds to my problem with the UPS. But I'd rather buy a new UPS, not only for the sake of that feature, but I need a bigger UPS that can hold the power to the PC for a considerable time. My current UPS (PowerTree S600B) can't do at least 10 minutes with the monitor turned on.
well i had use maxiumm 3 days win xp sp2

I wanted to buy the big one Viper Patriot (the one they show in TV). But they said it was out of stock at the moment so i got the Viper Elite (black) one. The Viper Patriot was 7000 Rs and Elite is 4,500.
The Viper Elite is 600VA and has 4 power slots. I dont know about the other one.

Damn I had to install a software as it (not Windows) was causing me trouble. However, when I removed it, it asked to reboot windows and i said i'll do it later. Eversince Windows has not been very stable.
I had to end my uptime feast. :(

See, now, that's directly responsible for the high electricity bill. Hibernating is OK, as long as you don't count that time you have the PC powered down, because here we are only considering how stable the OS is, not how stable your hardware is :)

Hey, In my system I've set Windows update to download n notify, so now IE7 has been downloaded, asks me whether to install
and it says...
This free upgrade to Internet Explorer for genuine Windows customers offers improvements such as: enhanced security to help protect you from malicious software and fraudulent websites; a cleaner look, including tabs for browsing multiple pages in one window; features to make everyday tasks such as printing and searching the web easier. This upgrade preserves your current home page, search settings, favorites, and compatible toolbars, and can be uninstalled if you decide to do so.
if am not genuine, wt happens?

If Windows is not genuine, you can't install any of the major updates like IE7, WMP11 etc. If you run Windows Update, you might get a message saying that your Windows is not legitimate, when you reboot.
But there are WGA cracks. They will pass the WGA test and report your OS as genuine.
