Need Help!!!

I am using an Intel Pentium D 2.8ghz 820 processor on an Intel 945GCCR motherboard... and having trouble getting the correct temperature of the CPU... the CMOS menu shows the Temp as 65 Celsius when booting the computer after a 12 hour break.. is this possible?? help!!! tried couple of softwares but didn't have any luck they only show hard disk and vga card temps

Maybe the temperature sensor is reporting it wrong. Try updating the motherboard's BIOS. It might resolve these minor issues.

i updated the bios but still no luck

Sometimes it might work correctly if you clear CMOS memory.

Mine also, (almost) same as yours D920 2.8Ghz + 945GM , does 40-50 Celcius :yes:

Depends on the board as well. It's the same fan they have with the PentiumD and Core 2 I believe, and in my case, the sensors show 50C at idle. 60C at full load. Maybe the temperature given in Intel motherboards is Core temperature. Some motherboards give a lower value, which is closer to the surface temperature of the CPU. A 10C difference between the two can be expected.

Yours 50 Celcius??? You once said its cooler than D series??

When I touch the heatsink, it's much cooler (to the hand) than the hard disk's surface temp. That's why I said where the sensor is placed also matters. Remember, this is just 900RPM! Motherboard (maybe it's the chipset) matters a lot. That's why my fan spins at 900RPM and some others' spin at 4000-5000RPM.
