Is Ranjith Fernando's commentary up to international standards?

Hey Guyz & Galz,

I was watching the highlights package of the England VS Sri Lanka match a few days ago, and watching the last ball in which Ravi Bopara was bowled, our very own Ranjith Fernando was shouting "Oh, Bopara has hit it for a boundary, and the Englishmen are elated" and afterwards realizing that Dilhara Fernando had bowled him. Was he really foolish enough as to not to have noticed that the Sri Lankan cricket players were celebrating?? Did he think that Sri Lankan players were celebrating because England won?

Please give your honest opinion on this poll and suggest who else would be a better commentator to represent Sri Lanka! I feel Ranil Abeynaike or Aravinda De Silva would be much better, preferably Aravinda, as he has tons of experience more than Ranjit Fernando in cricket

For any follower of cricket, the commentaries given on television are an important part of the entertainment. Apart from making the proceedings lively, they give useful insights into the game and provide us armchair cricketers an insiders` take on the proceedings. However, the commentaries of Ranjit Fernando are quite the opposite. The disharmonious croaking of crows descending on a piece of throw-away fish, stones thrown at a tin-roof and the sound of crashing gears of a full laden lorry climbing Haputale comes to mind.

Very good thread, I was gonna start this thread my self... but happy someone already thought about it!!

In short.. RANJITH FERNANDO SUCKS!!! REALLY SUCKS!!! I don't know why he is there when people like Ranil Abeynayake are there!! Yes! I remember the last ball of the England match very well and this fellow really made a joke of himself and ruined that nice moment....

I personally think he doesn't have that flare to be a commentator.. Commentating is an art, all he knows is to say "Oh! that's a great shot", "He has some experience", "One would think....." his vocabulary only contains very few words and he is so dull to listen to....

And has absolutely no HUMOR at all, when the camera shows something funny in the stands.... people expect commentators to say something funny about it... RANJITH is as cold as dead..... instead he'll talk same old things...

Anyway he should take example of people like Tony Grieg, Barry Richards, Sanjay Manjrekar....

Exactly..... When the other commentators pass the mic to Ranjith I feel like "Oh! No! not him again!!!"
