As you can see, most of the SL youth who I guess are aged above 14 stay not even earning a cent! People earning more than 100,000 are the ones who stays abroad (According to my knowledge).

In foreign countries, by the age of 14, children start earning, they take care of (part-time) jobs like cleaning, working in restaurents, etc... leaving the real work force in industries that bring $$$ to their countries... So those chilldren can spend on the bike they ever dreamt on buying or simply purchase a PC or a MAC after saving for some time... And they get used to the working environment so they too can produce great proffessionals out of them selves in the field they choose!

Why can't this happen in SL! This is my new project... Give your ideas!

Thank You!

Hello chamithal, what you have analyzed is correct...

Just to add to that, I would like to give you an insight about what I have experienced......... I think that it might help you, I have been living here in Malaysia for quite some time now and here almost every kid starting from age 14/15 does a part time when ever they can (especially in Kuala Lumpur).

I see few reasons, developing and developed countries does have a very very competitive market and everything here is for money, and there's a saying goes that "There's no free lunch", and people also have succumbed into that lifestyle...... and as a result earning becomes a compulsory issue from the small age.

And also due to the competition and heavy commercialization the opportunities also tends to be on the higher side, when I first came here it gave me a shock that school children using the latest mobiles that even a company director cant afford in SL, and that's because they got opportunities to make money-- mostly part time, you ask from a kid what he/she wants to do in school holidays most likely you'll get an answer "Hoping to do some part-time and buy my next phone... etc", another thing that I've seen here is that even if you are an IT graduate people are quite happy to take up a job in another field just for the time being...(which personally I don't like...)

In Sri lanka, with contrast to other countries commercialization still in infancy although it is growing rapidly, so opportunities are less, and the other most important factor is our family bonding, our parents are quite happy to nourish us until even we finish our University, just imagine how many times your parents might have scolded you "You only need to study, other things I will take care!!"(I've heard it like million times he..he..). And also unlike other countries Sri Lanka youth tend to wait until the perfect job comes along I guess!! (Is this good or Bad??? I don't know, depends on the person's vision)

So guess that helped at least a bit for your project!!!

Well! Thank you very much for the information! What you say is true! Here in SL our parents believe that it's their obligation to look after us even if we're married and have kids!!!

The bad thing is that there are not much (or almost any) part-time jobs created around... Not even part time... ha ha!!! U know how hard it is to find a living in SL ne?

I think it is the government who should act on this matter! They should utilize the human resources we have to maximize our output! Industries should be started in SL... I don't see any new (large scale) industries started in SL after the garment industry! Why can't the present rulers and administrative officers find innovative ways to start any industries in SL? Either they don't want or they are so dumb that they can't figure any thing out!

If more new industries are in action, more people will go to work in those places so KFC, McDonalds and other places (also cleaning in super markets and so on...) will offer part time jobs to kids over 14! Then the whole work force will be in action!

These are what I think.... I may be wrong!!! Correct me if so!

Cheers!!!
