Army Commander, Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka who toured the Jaffna peninsula today (19) reviewed the current security situation and extended New Year wishes to troops. Addressing troops the Army Commander admired their commitment and services during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrations.
Commander, Security Forces Jaffna, Maj General G.A. Chandrasiri welcoming the Army Commander at the Palali airbase briefed him on the security measures adopted during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrations in the peninsula.

Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka also inaugurated a conference hall constructed within the premises of the Security Force Headquarters in Jaffna. The Commander held discussions with Military Officers and troops on the measures that should be adopted to ensure security as well as the wellbeing of civilians. Here, the Commander also inspected arms, ammunition and other military gear recovered from the LTTE during the recent months.
The Commander also made use of the opportunity to visit soldiers receiving treatment at the Palali base hospital and inquired about their wellbeing.
