EDGE/EGPRS is implemented as a bolt-on enhancement to 2G and 2.5G GSM and GPRS networks, making it easier for existing GSM carriers to upgrade to it. EDGE/EGPRS is a superset to GPRS and can function on any network with GPRS deployed on it, provided the carrier implements the necessary upgrade.

Although EDGE requires no hardware or software changes to be made in GSM core networks, base stations must be modified. EDGE compatible transceiver units must be installed and the base station subsystem (BSS) needs to be upgraded to support EDGE. New mobile terminal hardware and software is also required to decode/encode the new modulation and coding schemes and carry the higher user data rates to implement new services.

Ya... Dialog Gives This Technology... We Had used it in Matara for our School Cricket Match (With The Help of Dialog).. But I don't know much about this... EDGE provides up to three times the data capacity of GPRS... This is Somthing like CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access)... But EDGE uses the TDMA(Time Division Multiple Access) frame structure

We have used It to get Internet... to Laptops via Bluetooth... We Did Live Online Web Score Update With it..

hmmm ya EDGE is available trough Dialog and Mobitel both i think... ur handset(phone) has to support it ... not sure how exactly we can use it but its upto 3 times faster than gprs... but not as fast as 3g which is also aviable through dialog.. the first network provider in south east asia to offer the 3g service :D
