Tiger aircrafts bomb Palaali military base in Jaffna


Two attack air-crafts of the Tamileealm Air Force (TAF) have bombed Palaali military base Tuesday early morning at 1:20 a.m., inflicting heavy damage to the Sri Lankan military garrison in Jaffna's High Security Zone, Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) military spokesman Irasiah Ilanthirayan told TamilNet.

The attack has caused severe casualties to the Sri Lankan forces garrisoned in the base, Mr. Ilanthirayan added.

According to the MCNS officials, an LTTE strategic sea Tiger base shattered into rubbles following the SLAF accurate air strikes, at Thalaiaddi south of Nagarkovil.

Meanwhile, the sources further added that a terrorist gathering was also engaged west of Thoppigala in Batticaloa district, at 01.00p.m.

Sri Lanka's Tamil Tigers bomb air base in north

COLOMBO (Reuters) - Tamil Tiger aircraft bombed a Sri Lankan military air base in the north of the country early on Tuesday, the second such strike by the rebel group.

"Tamil Tigers air wing attacked Palaali airstrip and military storage," rebel military spokesman Ilanthirayan said by telephone. "Our aircraft returned safely."

He said the extent of the damage was unknown, but the pro-Tiger Web site Tamilnet reported the attack inflicted "heavy damage" to a military garrison.

A government military spokesman could not be reached for a comment.

The attack on Tuesday came nearly a month after Tamil Tiger light aircraft flew undetected from rebel-held territory in the north of the island to the capital on the southwestern coast and bombed an air base next to the international airport.

Analysts say the Tigers' mini-air force consists of just two to five light, propeller planes built by pieces smuggled in over time, but are a threat the military would be ill-advised to underestimate.

The rebels, known officially as the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, or LTTE, have been fighting for decades for an independent homeland on the north and east of the teardrop-shaped island in the Indian Ocean.

Since 1983 the war in Sri Lanka has killed some 68,000 people, including more than 4,000 in the past 16 months as violence has intensified and left a 2002 ceasefire agreement in tatters.

The government of President Mahinda Rajapaksa has vowed to destroy the Tigers, while the rebels have warned of a "bloodbath" if the international community fails to stop daily military attacks.

SL High Commission bares LTTE links to clone credit card scam in UK

The First Secretary to Sri Lanka High Commissioner in the UK speaking to the BBC has said that the LTTE is well behind the clone card scam recently bared by the British sleuths. First secretary (Political) Mr. Maxwell Keegel giving interviews to BBC World Service Television, BBC channel One and BBC News TV on Saturday (21) said that considerable evidence is available to show that the fraud as been committed by the LTTE.

"We've got considerable evidence on this and we've known that this has been happening for a long time, how cards are skimmed in petrol stations here and information is transmitted almost immediately to LTTE operatives in other parts of the world who pick up this information and withdrew large sums of money", Mr. Keegel said.

The rout comes after a Tamil Tiger suicide bomber tried to blow up an army camp in Sri Lanka on Tuesday, killing nine people. The previous day, the rebels carried out their first air strike since fighting erupted in 1983.

The government has yet to explain how the Tigers managed to fly a light aircraft over the capital undetected, drop bombs and fly back to their northern stronghold without being shot down. But it says the Tiger air wing also represents a threat to South Asian neighbours like India.

LTTE artillery attack thwarted; 'No damages to Palali military base'

The Sri Lanka Air Force denied the statement of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam(LTTE) that the Tamil Tiger air planes bombed the Palali air strip by using their propeller driven two fixed winged air craft and called it a complete fabrication.

But military sources said by artillery fire six soldiers died at Myladdi , away from Palali air strip.

Military officials said that SL security forces were successful in repulsing an LTTE attempt to breach the High Security Air Zone in Palali. The security forces acted promptly, alerted through the air defence systems, and launched a counter air offensive at a suspected aircraft, detected in the skies off Tondamannar, forcing it to change course immediately. Observation units in the Point Pedro area confirmed that the fleeing aircraft had dropped two bombs in the Myladdi area. Unable to make-through the anti-air gunfire support from the SL security forces, the suspected aircraft had immediately altered course and headed to the un-liberated Mullattivu area.

Meanwhile, military officials in Jaffna said that LTTE terrorists launched a series of artillery fire towards the Palali general area from Pooneryn in the un-cleared Killinochchi district following the unsuccessful air attack. According to the Jaffna military officials, the LTTE artillery mounts were silenced in successive retaliatory heavy gunfire from the security forces. No damages were caused to the Palali military base, the officials further added.

According to civilian sources, tension has mounted in the Tellippalai area as LTTE launched artillery shells fell well within the civilian settlements, forcing the majority Tamil community to take shelter under the protection of the security forces. Military officials said that the damages caused to civilian lives and property were not yet accessed due to the LTTE artillery attack.

The exposed bogus reporting is another incident of the LTTE misleading the world community; an effort of the LTTE to gain undue propaganda mileage to their terrorist activities.

The discrepancies in the reporting of Pro-LTTE websites have become a phenomenal error in their cause of mediation.

This type of "Untruth", is resorted to win the confidence of people else where in the world.

The terrorists built military airstrips and smuggled in about five aircraft into the country, taking advantage of the lax security measures imposed by the Ranil Wickremesinghe administration immediately after he signed a Norway led peace accord.

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (CNN) -- Tamil Tiger rebels conducted an air raid on a government army camp in northern Sri Lanka Tuesday, leaving six dead and 13 wounded, Sri Lankan military sources told CNN.

The incident took place shortly after 1:20 a.m. Tuesday (1520 GMT Monday) at the Myliddy Army Camp in the troubled northern Jaffna peninsula. The camp houses engineering units of the army, just a few kilometers away from the main military garrison at Palaly.

Two "Tamil Eelam Air Force (planes) have bombed Palaly military base inflicting heavy damage," Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) military spokesman Irasiah Ilanthiriyan told the pro-LTTE Web site Tamilnet.

Military sources disputed the damage at Palaly, saying the bombs fell on Myliddy.

It was the second air attack by Tamil Tiger rebels in a month.

On March 26 two aircraft dropped bombs at the Sri Lanka Air Force's main base in Katunayake, adjoining the Colombo International Airport. The attack killed three and wounded 16 airmen.

The Tamil Tigers have been fighting since 1983 for a separate homeland for the Tamil minority in the north and east, citing decades of discrimination by the majority Sinhalese. The government has vowed to dislodge the rebels from their eastern stronghold.

About 65,000 people were killed before a 2002 cease-fire, which has become frayed by recent fighting between Tamil Tigers and the military

HERE IS THE TRUTH.

LTTE artillery attack thwarted; 'No damages to Palali military base'

The Sri Lanka Air Force denied the statement of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam(LTTE) that the Tamil Tiger air planes bombed the Palali air strip by using their propeller driven two fixed winged air craft and called it a complete fabrication.

But military sources said by artillery fire six soldiers died at Myladdi , away from Palali air strip.

Military officials said that SL security forces were successful in repulsing an LTTE attempt to breach the High Security Air Zone in Palali. The security forces acted promptly, alerted through the air defence systems, and launched a counter air offensive at a suspected aircraft, detected in the skies off Tondamannar, forcing it to change course immediately. Observation units in the Point Pedro area confirmed that the fleeing aircraft had dropped two bombs in the Myladdi area. Unable to make-through the anti-air gunfire support from the SL security forces, the suspected aircraft had immediately altered course and headed to the un-liberated Mullattivu area.

Meanwhile, military officials in Jaffna said that LTTE terrorists launched a series of artillery fire towards the Palali general area from Pooneryn in the un-cleared Killinochchi district following the unsuccessful air attack. According to the Jaffna military officials, the LTTE artillery mounts were silenced in successive retaliatory heavy gunfire from the security forces. No damages were caused to the Palali military base, the officials further added.

According to civilian sources, tension has mounted in the Tellippalai area as LTTE launched artillery shells fell well within the civilian settlements, forcing the majority Tamil community to take shelter under the protection of the security forces. Military officials said that the damages caused to civilian lives and property were not yet accessed due to the LTTE artillery attack.

The exposed bogus reporting is another incident of the LTTE misleading the world community; an effort of the LTTE to gain undue propaganda mileage to their terrorist activities.

The discrepancies in the reporting of Pro-LTTE websites have become a phenomenal error in their cause of mediation.

Tamil Eelam Air Force misses its target as elite troops avert major disaster

SLA elite commando units stationed in the northern forward defence lines (FDL) averted a major disaster today by taking timely action to rout incoming TAF aircraft. Two light aircraft of TAF were flying towards Palaly military base at around 1.20am today when soldiers stationed in FDLs observed, notified military command and opened fire at the aircraft causing them to abort the mission. Palaly military base is SLA's largest base complex in the embattled northern region and an airstrike on the complex would have caused catastrophic ripple effects to army operations throughout northern province.

Two light aircraft of the Tamil Eelam Air Force took part in the failed mission. Armed forces on guard duty detected the incoming aircraft and opened fire after receiving confirmation that they were engaged in a hostile operation. TAF aircraft, unable to penetrate the fire curtain created by SLA LMG and .50 caliber fire, dropped 4 bombs near Myladdi area and flew back towards rebel held region. 6 soldiers who came out of the bunkers to open fire at incoming aircrafts were caught in one of the explosions caused by TAF bombing. They succumbed to injuries after admitting to Palaly military hospital.

Pro LTTE media were seen falsely reporting that TAF succeeded the air mission. However DefenceNet has video evidence (cannot be released as they contain footage of sensitive information vital to national security) that will prove them all false. We can confirm that LTTE aircraft did not fly over Palaly base complex and they did not bomb Palaly base complex or the adjoining airfield in the attempted airstrike.

However, it should be noted that the two light aircraft were able to escape back to Wanni. This is the most worrying factor for the SLA in today's incident. If the tiger airstrikes (successful or not) continue, it would seriously degrade SLA ground troop morale.

LRRP takes major LTTE target

Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) Deep Penetration Unit (DPU) was humiliated when it's leader was killed in a claymore explosion which took place in rebel held Wanni district last week. Sri lanka army's Long Lange Reconnaissance Patrol (LRRP) units operating deep inside rebel territory carried out the attack which delivered a deadly blow to LTTE's deep penetration capabilities. The tractor transporting LTTE DPU leader and LTTE intelligence wing members was blasted into pieces by a powerful roadside claymore explosion.

LTTE's Deep Penetration Unit was behind many civilian massacres which took place during the recent times. Disrupting civilian life, defaming Sri Lankan government/armed forces and hunting down rival Tamil faction leaders were the main objectives of LTTE DPU. It was formed by current LTTE Batticaloa district commander Jeyam few years ago.

According to our information, specially trained Long Range Surveillance (LRS) units of the 3rd Special Forces regiment were used in the attack. Exact location and further details of the attack will not be revealed for security reasons.:yes:
