Just for everyone's information, the "most valuable player of the tournament" is selected based on a points system. 3 points are given for a "man of the match" award, 2 points for the second best player and 1 point for the third best player.

McGrath has gotten 15 points, well clear of Matthew Hayden. This has been selected by the commentary panel.

I would'nt totally agree with you because these guys are a bunch of experts, and, in the age of 'power hitting', McGrath has still been able to take wickets, when not a lot of bowlers like him have been able to put up consistent performances.

However, I do feel that they should nominate a 'Most Valuable Player of the Tournament' from both sides, and, depending on which team wins, they should give the award e.g. if Sri Lanka wins, then Mahela should be given the award (he has 11 points), if Australia wins, he should get the award!

1. Because generally I like batsmen more than bowlers
2. He's been the most consistant batsman in the tournament
3. It's never boring to see him bat because he will not respect the bowlers (Sanath is same, but he hasn't been consistant)

It was clear from da beginin abt da points system, al im sayn is, McGrath hasnt realy set da stage alite in dis tournament, as dere hav bin much mor players wit betr undr-presure performance, whras McGrath, bowls wit da new bal, wit bracken and/or tait atda oda end, how hard is it 4 him 2 keep da runs down? and power hitin? yeah, try dat in australia maybe, but on dese pitches, wit mcgrath and co. in operation, slashing is virtualy imposibl...... its stil s prety damn nice gesture by da panel though, mcgrath has been a gr8 playr, jst not at his best in dis tournament, but sumwhr prety damn close. my pik wud b hayden though, now dats power hitin 4 u.....

and BTW, if u luk and analyze closely, many of his wickets hav bin "giveaways" by da batsman, in dis tournament........ dnt get me wrng, im a huge mcgrath fan, realy, deres no betr exponent of line and length, but sumtin, obviusly, is misn.. mayb its his age, hes lost a bit of zip, hes stil prety gud........... but not da best...........
