Radeon Omega drivers
These are modified old catalyst drivers.Use at ur own risk.Usually these yields much more better performance for old AGPs as well as new ones like X1950XT.But use only a stable and a bit old release. Here is the January(latest) release. No probs now.
The purpose of the Omega Drivers is to provide gamers with an alternate set of drivers, ones that have more options and features than the original sets. The drivers contain optimizations, extra features (like OC capabilities), more resolutions and internal tweaks that can give users the edge in a gaming environment over the normal drivers, which are often tailored for synthetic benchmarks.
What's New in Omega Drivers v3.8.330
- Based on the Catalyst 7.1 Official drivers.
- Added support for some new chipsets.
- Clarified some options in the installer.
From Cat 6.6 and up ATI removed driver-level support for the following series of cards (including Mobility models): 7000, 7200, 7500, 8500, 9000, 9200, 9250. Since the Omega Drivers use ATI drivers as a base, that means they will also not include support for these chipsets, they may install, but the PC may give you a BSOD or a black screen upon boot. People that need to install Omega Drivers on these cards should use v3.8.252 or older.

There are some combinations to use and there are some major drawbacks in some software.
For instance ATITool is not good for OC.It sucks in OC.
Use CCC and Rivatuner to adjust fan and monitor 2D/3D clocks. Its a very good one.

Actually ATITool is the best overclocking software for ATI cards! :frown:
It comes with the artifact tester, which can find you the highest "safe" overclock of your card. It also allows you to save the VGA BIOS, and this is important when you hack the BIOS to unlock things.
The only drawback is that it doesn't come with a signed driver, so it cannot be installed in 64bit Vista without issues. Disabling signature verification works at times, but not always.
Also, it has issues with UAC in Vista 32bit. We have to run it as Admin otherwise it can't load the necessary driver.
ATI should have an option to do manual overclocking from CCC. It only supports Over Drive, which is automatic overclocking depending on how hot the card is. But CCC is another resource hog. Newer releases have lowered the RAM usage, but it's not as less as adding those options to the advanced section of the display properties. I never install CCC. At least not with this card, which doesn't support overdrive. (only X850XT supported overdrive from X8xx series)

I don't think those results should be trusted upon. There were some mismatches with the HD 2900XT benchmarks released previously and the ones released with HD 2900XTX.
However, in DX10, R600 should smoke a G80. As I read on some other forum, the R600 is a true DX10 card and G80 is not. So R600 must be lacking DX9 performance. Hope this is true, but this is not what people expect these days, as there are ZERO DX10 games out there.

R600XT to compete 8800 GTS only
ATI officially confirmed
ATI said in front of 150+ journalists that R600XT won't be able to compete with Geforce 8800 GTX. The dream is dead and Radeon HD 2900 XT won't be able to catch up with a six month old Geforce 8800 GTX.
ATI said that R600XT, Radeon HD 2900XT is about the performance of 8800 GTS. Radeon HD 2900 XTX won't be launched at mid may and will be delayed to Q3 2007. We already wrote about this here.
The dream that AMD can do something and return as the high end market leader s gone. R600 rails against G80. Congratulations on Nvidia.

Then why are the first results of HD 2900XT so different from the second? Maybe they had a problem with their setup. Who knows. Also, how can a 8800GTX sometimes be as twice as fast a 8800GTS?

U can do that only if yours has an external power connector. X850XT's clocks can't be achieved just by the 75W from PCI-E slot.
However, I can lower the clocks of the X850XT's BIOS to 486/523 from 520/560 and flash it. But no gains. So didn't bother.

First R600 Launch Evidence - HIS Radeon HD 2900XT 512MB GDDR3 VIVO PCIe
HIS - Hightech Information System Limited jumped the gun when preparing their website for the upcoming AMD R600 graphics cards. The following link leads to their online product presentation website for the HIS Radeon HD 2900XT 512MB GDDR3 VIVO PCIe (http://www.hisdigital.com/html/product_ov.php?id=304) and pretty much confirms nearly all the rumors we heard about this particular chip during the last few weeks and months.
It comes with a superscalar unified shader architecture, 320 unified stream processing units, is built in 80nm and got a 8-channel 512-bit memory interface. Of course you will get DirectX 10 support, Crossfire is integrated now (you will get a Crossfire Cable x 1 though), HDMI and 5.1 surround audio is built-in as well (you will get a special DVI to HDMI Dongle for that) as Video-In. The new chip features high-speed 128-bit HDR (High Dynamic Range) rendering and up to 24x Custom Filter Anti-Aliasing.
The HIS Product Code is H290XT512DV-R, the GPU- and memory-timings aren't revealed there yet, so isn't the price.
In addition to the card you will receive a Valve Black Box Game Coupon which you can exchange for Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Portal and Team Fortress 2.

There is problem with GDDR4. Because of the increased latencies, the 2.2GHz GDD4 is not any faster than 1.8GHz GDDR3. It can only give higher bandwidth.

Ever since R600 samples were handed out by AMD, people have been asking me for R600 support in ATITool. It's coming along nicely, but is not quite ready yet.
In the meantime you can use this nifty little tool from AMD. It can change 2D/3D clocks and lets you monitor temperatures of the card. It also works on RV610, RV630 and all previous products. It works under 2k, XP, Vista, 32-bit & 64-bit.

These pictures were taken only a few minutes ago. AMD showed off their Barcelona Quad Cores in action today in Monterey, California. What you see in the pictures below are single processor and dual processor configurations, so a true "4x4" is now realized by AMD that looks very comfortable on an enthusiast desktop. And yes, those are Radeon X2900 XT video cards in the systems. Ian McNaughton showed off both systems encoding a 1080P trailer of Spiderman 3 to an H.264 format. On the dual quad-core Barcelona machine the encoding nearly ran real time. Extremely impressive. You will be seeing Barcelona in servers long before it finally gets to our desktops though.
The speed of the processors was not disclosed, but given the speed of the encoding done they were not "slow" processors by any stretch of the imagination. Sticking my hand into the machines and feeling the base of the CPU heatsinks, the slightest warmth was detected. The same went for the northbridge heatsinks in the systems as well.

The company website has the Radeon HD 2600XT listed in detail, while the Radeon HD2400 Series link is present but empty. Gecube opted for a special "X-Turbo2 Silent Fan" so the card may be clocked higher than default. No mention of actual clock speeds are made, but the card features 256MB GDDR4, Built-in HDMI (HD Video with 5.1 surround audio) and Dual DVI (2 Dual link, HDCP).

MSI Radeon HD X2600 XT benckmarks
Seems like first RV630 samples are out in the wild. What's interesting besides the framerates is the 65nm architecture which seems to work out fine. Forum member NV6800 on the Coolaler.com (http://forum.coolaler.com/showpost.php?p=1776021&postcount=28) forum who tested the card claims his system only drew 197W at full load. That's just 51W more compared to when the system was idle.
The system used for the benches consisted of a Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 Dual-Core with an FSB of 1066 @ 2,933 MHz, two Gigabyte PC2-6400 memory modules and a MSI Radeon HD X2600 XT with 256MB GDDR4 RAM. The GPU was clocked at 800 MHz, while the memory's clock was 1100 MHz.

AMD to introduce 45nm process AM3 CPU family in 2H08
AMD schedules to launch its 45nm process socket AM3 family processors in the second half of 2008. The processors will support HyperTransport 3.0 and will have a built-in DDR2/DDR3 memory controller. The processors will be backwards compatible with the previous AM2 and AM2+ socket motherboards, according to sources at motherboard makers.
AMD's AM3 family will include the quad-core Deneb and DenebFX, dual-core Propus and Regor, and single-core Sargas. Shipments of 45nm products are predicted to surpass those of 65nm products within half a year from launch, noted the sources.
Although Socket AM3 processors will be backwards compatible with previous socket AM2 and AM2+ motherboards, socket AM3 motherboards will not be able to support the previous socket AM2 and AM2+ processors. Therefore shipment volumes of socket AM3 motherboards will depend on the speed of transition to DDR3 memory, added the sources.

AMD’s FASN8 May Be Delayed to Next Year
Advanced Micro Devices, the world's second largest manufacturer of x86 central processing units (CPUs) will delay the roll-out of its new enthusiast-class platform to next year, according to sources familiar with the plans of AMD.
The chipmaker only plans to unveil its AMD Phenom FX-80 processor, which is designed for single-processor configurations, in November or December this year, whereas AMD Phenom FX-90 and FX-91 products are set to be released sometime in the first quarter of 2008, sources close to AMD indicated. The move basically delays the introduction of AMD's FASN8 platform, which employs two CPUs and puts AMD's success in the field of computer enthusiasts under question. » Read full story (http://www.techpowerup.com/index.php?33893)

AMD updates Catalyst for Linux
Anyone who owns an AMD graphics card and runs it under Windows knows that driver updates are complete and frequent. However, change the operating system, and this level of support seems to evaporate. You're lucky to even get a LiveCD to boot if you have an ATI card in your system, and even if you manage to install a version of *nix, good luck getting 3D applications to run bug-free.
Thankfully, AMD decided to listen to their customers. The latest AMD Catalyst for Linux is much cleaner, much more efficient, and much faster than the older version of Catalyst. Classic *nix functions, such as switching between X server and CLI are much smoother/don't freeze the system, and late 3D applications (even simple ones such as Google Earth) actually work now, which couldn't be said for older versions of AMD Catalyst for Linux.
Granted, the Linux version is not as fully featured as the Windows version. However, it is just as functional, and just as stable, as the Windows version, which is a huge step in the right direction for *nix users.

Same goes for the Nehalem. Both are not released. Intel even has to release the Penryn before that. But Penryn is not aimed to beat Barcelona, and I hope it does not. Otherwise, AMD will be out of business even with their dream CPU.

Video processing capabilities are the only plus points in the HD series over GF8. But only in the low end segment. Highend HD 2900 doesn't have any video processing capabilities as the G80 :-S

AMD Releases Two New TV Wonders
AMD today announced two new multimedia TV Wonder products - the TV Wonder 650 Combo PCIe (http://ati.amd.com/products/tvwonder650/index.html) and TV Wonder 600 USB (http://ati.amd.com/products/tvwonder600/USB/index.html). The TV Wonder 650 Combo PCIe uses single PCIe x1 slot and features dual tuners: one to receive analog and one to receive digital broadcasts. Both tuners can operate simultaneously, allowing users to watch and record analog TV, "free-to-air" HDTV, unencrypted digital ClearQAM cable TV2 and FM stations. The new TV Wonder 600 Hi-Speed USB is a powerful High Definition PVR packed into a sleek and elegant USB 2.0 stick. This device can be used with either your laptop or desktop PC. It does not have dual tuner functionality, but can easily process free-to-air HDTV, digital or analog TV broadcasts. Both new tuner products are fully compatible with Windows Vista Media Center and Windows XP Media Center Edition. Expect the TV Wonder 650 Combo PCIe and TV Wonder 600 USB to show up in September.

AMD to Launch New High-end Desktop Processor
AMD is preparing to launch a new high-end desktop processor, the Athlon 64 X2 6400+, which will be the last processor in the Athlon 64 X2 family. Currently, AMD's highest-end desktop processor is the Athlon 64 X2 6000+, however with its performance unable to match Intel's upcoming Core 2 Duo E6850, AMD plans to launch the new 6400+ to cover up the gap in the market. The 6400+ will have a core frequency of 3.2GHz and 2MB L2 cache, while the pricing will range between US$220-248. Samples of the new CPUs are already shipping to motherboard makers, but there's still no official release date.

AMD’s Fab 36 Fully Converted to 65nm Process Technology
Advanced Micro Devices announced during the most recent teleconference with analysts that its Fab 36 had been fully converted to modern process technology and also said that the yield of those products was high enough.
Our Fab 36 conversion to 65nm is complete, with yields exceeding expectations and we now turn all our attention to 45nm [transition] said Dirk Meyer, the president and chief operating officer at AMD, during the conference call.
As a result, AMD's first 65nm quad-core Opteron processors code-named Barcelona will be introduced in August or September, but will only run at 2.0GHz, whereas faster parts are projected to become available in Q4 2007.

ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro Gets AGP Interface
AMD/ATI is preparing to launch ATI Radeon HD 2000-series graphics cards for accelerated graphics port (AGP). As a matter of fact two of the main ATI partners, Sapphire Technologies and GeCube have already started to sell them. GeCube GC-RX24PGA2-D3 graphics card based on ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro graphics processing unit (GPU) and with 256MB of GDDR2 memory onboard is currently available in some Tokyo, Japan stores, according to Akiba PC Hotline (http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/akiba/hotline/20070721/etc_hd24agp.html) website. The novelty costs ¥11480 (about $95) and provides a very cost-efficient upgrade path for personal computers built three or more years ago. The Radeon HD 2400 Pro is fully compatible with DirectX 10 application programming interface, can drive large high-resolution displays and also features an advanced video engine. Apart from GeCube and Sapphire, Tul Corp. is also preparing ATI Radeon HD 2400- and 2600-series graphics cards for AGP systems under the PowerColor brand.

AMD/ATI Planning new mid-range video card: the RV670
If you look at the current offerings from AMD/ATI, you can see that there is quite a large gap between midrange and high-end video cards. In contrast to the previous offerings, where the gap between X1950GT and X1950XTX was somewhat small, the Radeon 2900XT is easily two to three times as powerful as the Radeon 2600XT. Fortunately, AMD/ATI is planning to remedy this by developing the RV670. The current rumors say that it will be a 65nm chip, clocked similarly to the HD 2900, but with an unknown amount of ROP's, or TMU's. We should hear more about this chip in Q3, and if all goes well, it will be released by this Christmas.

AMD Aspires to profit by Q4 2007
As we all know, AMD is not doing so well as of late. Two quarters of battering revenue losses even have some analysts wondering whether or not AMD will still be around by 2008. Fortunately, AMD plans not to go without quite the fight. AMD is making all 65nm parts in most, if not all, of their fabs, and has started a new market strategy called "Asset Light".

AM2+ And AM3 Compatible With AM2 Motherboards
Currently if you want to upgrade from an AMD processor older than the AM2 socket you're going to have to buy a new motherboard. This means that while the prices of the processors themselves may be enticing, the prospect of potentially changing your entire system may change your mind. However, with its AM2+ and AM3 CPUs AMD will be ensuring that they are backwards compatible with current motherboards thus when Phenom finally hits the streets socket AM2, Athlon 64 X2 and FX owners will be able to purchase the new model without changing motherboards.

AMD Phenom Gaming System Revealed
The guys over at Gizmodo got a hold of AMD's newest quad core system. The rig seems quite impressive while it also uses two ATI X2900XTs. Its not much of a review but it's still better than nothing.
We just got the chance to play around with AMD's newest quad core system, the Phenom RD790 and a pair of ATI HD2900XT graphics processors. There's a whole lot of cooling going on, thanks to John Woo's new game Stranglehold. AMD is still mum on pricing and final specs, though they did reaffirm their desire to ship this sucker in "early Q4" of this year, so like October? The system managed the Havoc physics engine with ease, jumping into sepia-toned "tequila" time and into a zoom mode that gave a bullet's eye view of the action. Lack of specs notwithstanding, the experience was mesmerizing, right up to the point where one of the bad guys in the game took a bullet in the nuts, and I actually felt his pain.
